that they are not showing the visit of the Pope to the UK. Now i know he's not coming here, but it's probably the closest he's going to be for a while. But cosidering that RTE still show religious programs, i'm wondering why they are not showing this dispite our majority catholic population (even if not all of us practise), and irelands current interest in the catholic church.

Just thought i'd put it out there, if it was on, might have even watched a bit of it my self.

    It's

    1. Jealousy
    2. Retaliation for the Catholic church handling the recent events here very badly.

Kinda contradictory of each other really :pac:

I don't see why RTÉ would show this. Is there not a multitude of UK channels covering his visit?

The pope is usually only 2 and a half hours away. I am glad that he isn't being invited, this country cannot afford it.

the beeb are, and sky news are probably doing their usual wall to wall coverage, but not everyone gets the UK stations or has sky/cable. There are plenty of times when both the UK and Irish broadcasters show the same thing at the same time with regard to international events.

Yes i agree we cant afford to host him, but thought with irelands catholic following, surprised its not been shown in some form other than a segment on the news.

hmmm....clever of RTE. The vast majority of people who would want to watch this are probably in the OAP age bracket....most of whom don't have internet access to watch it online.

They are showing the Papal mass on Sunday morning on RTE 1 at 10am for anyone interested.

    .

Maybe you are on the east coast but not everywhere in Ireland can get these channels.
Not without paying extra for satellite or cable.

I do not receive any television through an aerial from the UK. Satellite reception can be had for a very low one off cost. Nobody needs to pay Sky anything to watch the BBC and ITV on satellite.

If the pope was in Ireland then yes I would expect full coverage. Should RTÉ offer full coverage for a visit to say Brazil? It is a different country afterall, just like the UK.

Why should RTE cover it as it's a UK event?

Anyhow, the vast majority of people have access to UK channels now anyway even in the countryside.

I think it's good that RTE are not showing this, next they need to take off the Angelus!
