Im thinking of buying an optical cable and connecting it to the hd box and surround sound dvd player. Has anybody else got theirs connected like this?? If so is it worth it or just waste of money??

I have in a roundabout way (UPC >> TV via HDMI, TV >> surround sound via optical). In my opinion its well worth it; I think it makes a difference to the sound quality. Whether it does or it just in my head is another story!

I have an AV receiver, (and have problems using the HDMI), so I use SCART for the picture, and optical for the audio. Works perfectly for me, especially with the surround sound on the HD channels.

Been using optical for ages. HDMI for picture.

I feed all connections through the receiver however. A minor issue with HDMI control, but it's easily sorted.
