I usually train in Gel Nimbus but run most races in Asics DS racing flats, would I be daft to risk the half marathon in these without having run anything longer than 10k?

Depends. What are your feet and lower legs like after running 10k in flats?

Asics DS Racers arent exactly racing flats. Theyre light compared to Nimbus but would still be a good deal heavier than true flats. You'd get a marathon out of ds racers never mind a half............although considering you havent worn them for anything over 10k at this stage it could be risky. Best to try them for longer runs in training before racing a half marathon in them.

No problems after the 10k but a half is so much longer. Thanks for the feedback, I'm still undecided. I thought the DS was super light but I'm just comparing with the Gel Nimbus.

The half I'm thinking about is on Saturday so no time to experiment, I may toss a coin on this.

I just ran a 50 miles race wearing a pair of Lunaracers, so I'm definitely on the side of using racing flats in a race. If you really did not have any issues over 10k then I would go ahead and wear them for the half marathon.

Having said that, ideally you would have worn them on a 10 mile training run to see how your legs can cope, that's too late now.

Where can I buy the lunar racer 2? I need to try them on with my orthothics so don't want to risk mail order. What is the fit like?

I'm still using a lunar racer 1 because I think they f***ed up the 2 by making it over an ounce heavier than the 1.

I got mine online, but if you prefer a real shop, Amphibian King have it, and I'm sure any big shop will be able to order it for you if it's not in stock.

Would you just race in the luna racers or do some training aswell? Got a pair of those Luna racers a couple of months ago and havent used them a lot. Keep reverting back to my Mizuno's for everything. Think Im nervous of picking up an injury in the luna racers....

I think you might be mistaking the ds trainer for the ds racer.
The ds racer is 219grams against the nimbus which is 345grams
and the ds trainer is a performance shoe 281 grams.

I think racing shoes can take a good bit of getting used to.Lighter is not always better and sometimes a differn't brand might work better.

I have 2 pairs of luna racers, one that was used for a few marathons and is now a training shoe for fast workouts. I don't use them very often (less than once a week), but they have already 600 miles on them.

The other pair is used for racing only, about 200 miles so far, and will replace the other pair as fast training shoes once I buy a new pair of racers.

I main reason I love those shoes is that despite them being incredibly light, they provide an astounding amount of cushioning. I know of at least 2 runners who use nothing else, even in training, because they are not as hard on your legs as other racers.

I found the original lunar racer a small fit and unlike the trainer or glide in terms of fit especially with the orthothics. Is the newer lunar racer2 the same fit?
