BBC2 black n white

Does anyone notice on NTL that the BBC2 picture quality is a bit... lacking? When I connect my pipe to a DVD recorder, BBC 2 sometimes goes black and white. I've checked all the connections and everything is top order. It's just sometimes there's no colour and sometimes there is. It's fine through the TV or a VCR.

Have you changed the rf out channel on your DVD recorder? It could be interferance.

If you are in Dublin, BBC 2 is liable to interferance from RTE Digital transmissions. The closer you are to 3 Rock the more severe the interferance.

DVD recorders do not have a modulator (at least 99% if not all of them)

If the tuner in your DVD machine can do fine tuning - fine tune BBC2 upwards a bit - it may be of help with weak colour.

DVD recorders usually do not have a modulator

this is probably the problem (and its the DAB, not DTT)

replace any plastic splitters with metal ones, better quality cable (the type that was called CT100) may be of help.

    Mine does.

As BBC2 is fine through a VCR and tv I don't see how Three Rock can be the cause.

Its been mentioned here before repeatedly - the RTE DAB radio transmission (227MHz approx) in the air falls within the bandwidth of the BBC2 analogue cable channel (in band III) in Dublin. Idealy one should not affect the other, but cabling and connectors can be less than perfect, and a strong signal in the air can ingress one way or another

I'm not saying this is definately the issue with you, but if BBC2 is the only channel with a problem, it seems likely.

BTW what DVD recorder do you have that has a modulator and how old?
This is of course useful to pipe to other TVs around the house.

I am not denying that there is a problem with DAB interference. I just find it odd that interference would occur with one device and not others.

When I get home I will find out for you. It is about 6 years old.

    What's 3 Rock?

If it's worth mentioning, I can see the big masts on the mountains from my house so I'm not far from that if that's what you mean.

I'm taking all of this in but the other channels are alright and BBC 2 through the VCR is in colour. The quality however, isn't that good but it's the same in all the TVs in the house and they're all running off their own box of course. The teletext/Ceefax breaks up too.
