hi ..first time poster here so ill keep it short

Have been looking for A Puppy for a while now and Finally found one last week. Went and saw the litter, picked out the one i wanted and the lady owning them said they would be ready in a week or 2. Puppies were Born on the 2nd of August which only makes them 6 weeks and 2 days old, i got a phone call from the lady this morning to say the Puppy is ready to be collected according to her and her vet. she is kind of insistin he is collected by the weekend and im worried that he is still too young to be taken away from his mother, i know some of his brothers and sisters are gone already..but i just want peoples opinions on this??
    Thanks in Advance

Trust your instinct. It's too young and no reputable breeder would have a puppy go any sooner than 8 weeks as they'd know how important those 2 weeks are in a puppies behavioural development.

6 weeks is far too young to be taken away and the fact she is insisting they are taken is a very bad sign so i would walk away from this one.

Any decent breeder will never be in a hurry to get rid of the pups and esp not before 8 weeks so please do not take these pups, even if you have to walk away and look for another litter.

What breed are they if you dont mind me asking? Also where did you locate the breeder/litter? Were they advertised somewhere or was the breeder recommended by someone?

she isnt actually a breeder, these puppies were a first time suprise arrival. ill ring her back this evening and see will she hold on to him for another 2 weeks. as far as i know they have been seperated from their mother since the weekend tho and so she probably wont but them back to her..all i can do is ring and ask i suppose.

@andreac..they are a cross between a dalmation and a spaniel

Sorry, but of course shes a breeder if she has puppies??

If she owns the bitch and she knew she was in season, then she knows she can and did get pregnant, so i dont buy these stories of suprise arrivals etc. They know exactly how this happened and they know their dogs come into season, so there should be no surprise arrivals. I really would urge you to walk away.
Im guessing if they werent planned then parents arent health tested and so on, which is even more of a reason not to take this puppy.
How did you find out about these puppies anyway? How old is the mother too?? id be more concerned about finding out all the info before taking this pup.

she owns the bitch and the father.. im not sure how old the mother is but she looks young enough and this is her first batch of puppies, the father is a dalmation which they enter in shows. The vet she uses is also the vet my family uses and told me about them as he know i was looking for a puppy and the only thing im worried about it the seperation so young.

Perhaps she did not know the bitch was in season?
Not everybody knows these things, maybe they should but sometimes people get caught out and the deed is done before they realised it was possible.

Six weeks old is far too young; trust me on this, you will be far better off walking away. The mother will teach those pups a lot of things they need to know around the seventh week of their life. A lot of problems people have with their dogs behaviours is because the pups are either not socialised properly when young or they are taken from their mothers too early. Not only that, but that pup can't be vaccinated until the eight week of its life because it takes the full eight weeks for a pup to lose all of the immunity it gained from its mother. Which means you will have a puppy that you will have to keep indoors from the moment you get it until six weeks later when it gets the second vaccination. You'll be making an awful lot of hassle for yourself really by taking on this pup so young.

OP I would walk away from this litter, pups taken at this early age are known to lack proper doggie social skills as well as a lack of bite inhibition which can lead to behavioural issues later on in life. As well as this the 'breeder's' obviously lacks either the knowledge or interest in raising pups correctly and this would make me question how these pups have been raised, fed, socialised etc.
There are literally thousands of other pups out there who have been raised properly and given a good start in life, save yourself the heartache and look for one of these.

Why would you post today about taking the pup when you already have it?? I dont get it?
Why bother asking for advice if you have already taken the pup.

no that is not me!!!.. i asked the question because i wanted peoples opionions, if i had the puppy already i would have asked wat to do in that situation.
im sure im not the only person in the country to wonder this so you may aswell stop jumping to conclusions...which were wrong by the way

but obviously this must be one of his brothers or sisters that have been collected already.. after reading that im defo going to insist she keeps him til he is the 8 weeks.
