Defer for a year in college

After working full time over the summer I've just earned enough money to sort out my accommodation and fees for the year. After that i'll be broke. I'll still have my job as i'm able to work part time but I'll just be earning enough to get by. I'm really only doing a degree course for the sake of getting a degree. What i was hoping to do after college was go travelling and working abroad(having a degree will make things alot easier when finding work). The only thing that will hold me back from doing this when i finish college is the cost of traveling. I know ill be broke when i graduate. I've been really considering taking a year out and working full-time to save up some money. That will mean by the time i go into my last year at least i'll have a good bit of funds and no job so i can concentrate on my studies.

My parents have told me to finish college, work for a year and then go travelling. This is another option, that i considered but i'm almost certain i wont get a good degree while working part-time. I feel the workload will be too much and i'll end up with a pass degree at worst. Which would be useless.

I really don't want to make the wrong decision and regret it down the line.

I worked part time, partied hard, and got a good degree. Screw that I got a great degree.

Its all down to attitude. If you apply yourself properly in college, you can still work, have fun, and do well.

    Out of interest, what course/college?

Also, bear in mind that right now it will be difficult to get a well paying, full time job without a degree.

If I were you I would work part time throughout the year, spend the summers doing as many jobs as possible to save money, and do this up until the summer before final year. Just before final year, take a good holiday - a nice treat, and then stop working. You should have saved enough through summers etc to get you through final year, and to be honest, you won't be as partying as hard. I think in final year I spend most of my money in the vending machine in the library...

THEN get a full time job for a year and then travel.

I'd take your parents' advice... finish college, work a year and then travel.

Depending on the type of course you're doing, balancing a part time job and studies will just be down to time management.

Between my 3rd and 4th (final year) I was working the summer and kept the job I had over the summer on a part time basis.... In the end, due to the work load of an academic course that was about 35-40 hours of lectures and group projects, study time etc I felt at one point that I had no choice but to give up my part time job to give my degree the full focus it needed.

Is the job you have something that you can go back to for a year after you finish your degree?
In any case if you're going to go travelling you're going to need some money saved up in advance to finance it, but it should not come at the sacrifice of your education.

You could defer your place for a year, but make sure you're fully informed from the college on what basis you can do so and as college places are getting a bit scarce if indeed they will be able to accommodate you.
