    Hey guys,

    I'm a little confused about something, just want to ask a quick question - On 3 network with the iphone you get a 2GB data allowance a month. Does that mean that if you don't go over that 2GB you won't be charged a penny for using the internet? I understand wireless is free but i'm talking about browsing over 3G. There's no actual connection cost is there?

    Even if you go over it 1 flexi unit on 3 is equal to 500kb of data usage so does that mean that if you're a casual user like me it will be very difficult to be charged for internet usage at all?

    I know this is very basic sorry, i'm just used to the days when you'd be charged €100 a minute for internet on your phone!

    As long as you don't go over your 2GB you won't be charged. I use mine a lot and never go over the 2GB.

    The 2GB data allowance is part of your package. In my experience it would be quite difficult to exceed this in any given month (unless you're streaming videos all the time). If you use more than this then your flexi-units will be used up.

    However I'm not sure you fully understand kilobites, megabites and gigabites.

    1GB = 1,000MB = 1,000,000KB

    So therefore 500kB isn't really that much (0.0005GB or 0.5MB), and if your average daily rate is 67MB per day (2GB / 30), then you would use at least 120 flexi-units each day (if you continued to use your data in the same pattern)

    [NB: The calculations are off the top of my head, I think I've got the numbers right, someone let me know if there's an error]

    IF you are a really heavy user you can user the extra 2GB as your free add-on giving you 4gb a month allowance. That is presuming you can keep a 3G signal on 3 long enough to use the internet, but that is a whole other 80+ page discussion :)

    Ahhhh you're right didn't quite get how much a KB was! From what ye say I really doubt i'll go over the limit anyways so should be ok.

    Thanks guys

    Is that correct that if you're a sub with a 2GB allowance, you can have the 2GB add-on? Sure? I thought they expressly said no to that. If true, I'd rather have that more than anything as you will use up more data while using iPhone as a modem. Besides, it means you could lose another account such as MiFi.

    To answer my own query, it seems you can and if so, am changing to that immediately. Odd, because the 2GB add-on is a 14,99€ one as opposed to 4,99 for most of the others. None of the others really appeal, not even landlines, as localphone seems to be a royal pain in the nuts (a different access number for every contact!) compared to gocall.ie

    That's handy to know. I thought you had to be on a higher monthly tariff to benefit from it. I'm jumping ship on my add on too!
