TV Show of The Week: The Den

As this is the last week ever of The Den. I think we should have it as TV Show of the Week.

In 1986 it began on RTÉ One as Dempsey's Den hosted by Iano. Iano present the show for a year before the arrival of Zig and Zag. Then in the autumn of 1987 the 2 twins took alternate days with the host before becoming a Children's TV phenomona of the late 1980s. The show then moved to Network 2 in 1988 and in 1989 Zig and Zag were the winners of a "Ronan Collins' Christmas Charity Golf Tournament" and won a Turkey, who was under the impression that people liked Turkey's for Christmas. Dustin The Turkey was a orphaned Turkey Vulture. In 1990 Ray D'Arcy or Raymond became the host of the show for 7 years until 1997 and in 1990 The Den released their first Christmas No. 1. Ray's Rave.

In 1994 after a number of successful years on Channel 4 both Zig and Zag move full time to England and Dustin be came the main character on the show. And was soon after joined by Socky the Sock Monster. After Ray D'Arcy the show started to air earlier and early. With various hosts up until the 2000s when the main links were axed in favour of Dustin's Daily News and Socky's Little Big Morning show.

I could look at Zig and Zag clips all day.

My favourite time in the Den was when podge was evil, and you'd see his head slow rise in the background, or appear at the window... (this was before they turned him into a randy old fogie for late night TV)
