    Hi

My dad wants to get his laptop fixed, but i can't seem to find any info on dells horribly unhelpful site. it's 6 months old and It has 6 months left on the warranty and has been treated really well (only my dad ever uses it around 10 mins a day). No damage at all; it just stopped working one day.

All i want to know is how do you order on line to get laptop picked up for repairs? or do you have to ring a number.

For some reason i can't handle the dell site it's one of the worst sites I've ever seen for ease of use.

    Regards
    JAK

What is wrong with it exactly? When you say it just stopped working one day, do you mean it just doesn't turn on? Or is it something else?

My dad tried to turn it on one day and it just froze at the windows screen. For no reason. I don't know the password, neither does anyone in the family. And he never uses it. It's a complete mystery as the thing is immaculate; it's never used... must have died of boredom.

Think I'll try the above link later on.

If its windows that will not start but the laptop comes on ok dell will not cover the support under the warranty.

Can you be more specific as to what happens when you turn it on.

Where were you asked for a password.

? I don't know why but i would imagine that it's the computers fault that windows isn't starting. Anyway the guy on the phone went through all the recovery stages with me and nothing happened. Completely frozen and making 8 loud beeps.

They're coming to collect it soon. Should i try to reinstall windows if that's the issue? Before they arrange to collect it (waiting on a call to confirm pick-up time)

It freezes at the windows screen and makes 8 very aggressive beeps.... very very loud and ominous, which continues indefinitely.

The dell guy said nothing to me about not being covered.

    Thanks for the help

reinstalling wont fix that, sounds like bad memory ,or your keyboard is flakey

You've nothing to lose by re-installing it.

If it was a hardware problem I'd have assumed it wouldn't go past the bios.
