You will do very very well to insure that at that age and level of experience.

Get out the phonebook and make some calls. If you have deep pockets and thick skin you might get lucky. Just stay away from the big boys (the likes of Axa, RSA etc) as they have no interest in insuring cars like that.

Find a broker who deals with Setanta and see if they can do anything for you. Try Britton as well.

If all else fails, XS Direct will probably quote you, but youll end up with an excess of around €4000.

ya i assumed id need plenty bobs but just thought id check if the age of the car would bring it down abit

Eh not really! Even with normal cars its getting that insurance companies are charging more for older cars. An AE86 is an exceptional case; age doesnt come into it, its just a class of car they dont like.

The AE86 is one of the cars that you have to pay through the nose to insure, same as most of the Jap Performance cars. I like the look of the 'Cams but people are looking for stupid money for them.

    8.5k for this?!

    Madness

But on the insurance thing, I wanted a CTR when I started driving at 19...Couldn't Insure a Type R until I was 22, and it's still hard to insure at 23. I really can't see you getting quoted on the 'Cam with so little expierence, sorry dude but we all gotta go through it

Maybe, but that is the current market value for Cams (well 8K for a clean, well speced one), they are a classic car and well liked by enthusiasts and as track cars.

The age of the car will actually go against you here too, most insurers don't like cars over 20 years old unless you're taking out a classic policy.

And you have to be 25 to get clasic cover

What is the story with these insurance crouds? A lad I was with at FAS aged 22 could not get insured on a type R integra with 5 years no claims. He then asked about getting insured on an E46 M3 which has about 140HP more than the integra and guess what, they would insure him for €2200:rolleyes: Some country!

They pay out more on Integra Type R's than on M3's

Thats what its based on, the cars which are more prone to payouts?

In terms of the risk assessment of a vehicle essentially yes.

More Integra Type R's are crashed, stolen, damaged than M3's so it makes sense that they are seen as a higher risk.

Of course the cars power is a factor also, insurance is based on a long list of different factors that are taken into account from age, location, driver experience to the cars power rating, safety rating.
