    Hi
Just wondering what one does if they are in receipt of Job seekers Allowance and get sick ?

What happens to their social welfare payment? Do they have to go to their local Social Welfare office ? What happens to their payment? Would they need to be reassessed then again by a social welfare doctor?

Do they need to apply for Disability Benefit immediately?

I posted this on another topic - when you are sick on JSA then you are not available for work so you simply swap to illness benefit. You get a sick cert from your doc to open your claim and you get the same amount.

    See here http://www.citizensinformation.ie/categories/social-welfare/social-welfare-payments/disability-and-illness/disability_benefit

    For more info.....

<H3>Transfer from Jobseeker's Allowance or Invalidity Pension to Illness Benefit

If you were getting Jobseeker's Allowance or Invalidity Pension immediately before claiming Illness Benefit, you do not need to have 13 paid contributions. However, if you do not have the required 13 paid PRSI contributions in the Relevant Tax Year you will only qualify for a reduced rate of payment.

you go to your doctor and get a MC1 cert and fill it and out drop it into your local office or post it to the HQ in dublin.you will then need to get a MC2 cert from your doctor every week you are not available/unfit for work.it will take a few weeks for your claim to be processed so you should go to the cwo once you have applied fot illness benefit.you will be sent for a medical assessment if you are on illness benefit for a long period of timebut it wont affect you if its only a few weeks.
