Hi I'm not too good at Tech stuff so looking for some advice please. I live in Tullamore and I want to replace my TV aerial, I have a Sat Dish and I receive all the Freeview channels from that. If I buy a new aerial will it work in a few years when the Irish stations go from terrestrial to digital. I think I receive my TV signal from Longford on the Group B is this true? Also I have a year old 32' Toshiba TV and I think it has a built in tuner?Thank you!

Why do you need to replace your current Aerial ? It will more than likely work perfectly well with Saorview.

Your TV may or may not be compatible with Saorview, more details on your TV model number are required to advise. You need a MPEG4 DVB-T TV or set top box to get Saorview.

You could get a DTT/SAT combo box and have all your Free To Air Satellite and DTT channels running on it .

PS - You get "Free To Air" or "Freesat" channels from your satellite dish and not "Freeview" . Many people get confused and buy the wrong equipment - "Freeview" is a UK DTT service received through an Aerial.

Hi thanks for reply, I will get back to you with the TV model number, the reason I'm replacing my aerial is the picture has been getting worse over the past few years and a friend said I needed a new aerial, and yes your correct, its not freeview I'm geting but free to air! Thanks again!

The co-axial cable from the aerial to the tv could also be at fault.

howdy. tullamore based myself. reception is quite poor for analogue anyways in tullamore these days but with dtt you should be grand if your aerial is anyways decent. I put a new aerial 2 weeks ago... a triax supergain18b but dam thing holds rainwater like theres no tomorrow and the signal drops 20 to 30% in the heavy rain when it gets wet... even with that signal drop though dtt is still perfect and its just above gable end level as we have no chimney on the roof.
as has been said check your cable first.... then if not try the aerial.

Hi thanks for the replies, yes I'll check the coax cable before I replace the aerial. The TV I have is a Toshiba AV615DB 32 LCD, it just one year old!

I am next door in Clara, Offaly and i have excellent analogue picture throughout the house with a small outdoor aerial.

I also recently hooked up the cats ears to the kids ps3 with its mpeg4 tuner and picture on that is amazing! crystal clear quality better than quality on a Sky+ box, I also tried that out on a new LG tv i got with built in MPEG 4 tuner and that too works excellent even with cats ears.

If youre using the Longford (Cairnhill) TX a UHF group B aerial should bring in all the analouge and digital Irish channels IIRC
