    Would you resign your job and then apply for a new one with a very strong chance of rejection?

    You'd be crazy to, better to have a backup plan.

    I know of no good reason a sitting TD can't run for the presidency.
    They'd have to resign their seat once elected of course.

    Unlikely that any sitting TD's other than MDHiggins will be in the running.
