Nice/Cannes Restaurants

    Hi,
I'm off to Nice on Thursday for 4 nights and then to Cannes for 4 nights. I've read thru the threads here and got a few restaurant recommendations. Does anyone have any good lunch or dinner recommendations for Nice & Cannes. I've heard that both Nice & Cannes are very expensive for eating out and for drinks. Are there good locals restaurants or any hidden gems we should know about? Are there certain wines to buy to keep costs down? Local beers, etc?

Any advice would be very welcome.

In Nice, try Don Camillo on Rue des Ponchettes, between the Chateau and Cours Salaya. It's a fantastic place with a young chef proprietor who produces excellent food. The tasting menu (degustation) is very good value.
Acchiardo is a tiny local restaurant, cheap and generous portions of local food. Ring before you leave to ensure a table. Google for a number! We go there every time we go to Nice...
Edited to add: Acchiardo doesn't open Saturday or Sunday nights.

Another really cheap place to eat is Pizza Jusu, just up the lane from Acchiardo. Lovely pizzas and pasta dishes, cramped, but cheap.

Avoid anywhere on Cours Salaya with the exception of La Civette du Cours and even there, just keep it simple. Nice omlettes etc. Most of the places on the Cours work on the basis that they attract tourists and therefore aren't worried about repeat custom.

Just up from the Cours, towards the Opera house is Voglia, a great italian. Monsterous portions, reasonably priced (not cheap but you'll eat very well!) and the place is buzzing.

If you do want to push the boat out, BeefBar at the Marche aux Fleurs has some of the best steaks you'll ever eat but the prices are extremely steep and you may well question the value!

In the new town, I really like Brasserie Flo, behind Galleries Lafayette. Again, not cheap.
