Got an invitation to upgrade on Friday and availed of it - I only got around to installing it this morning. They've found another performance improvement - Windows boot time is faster and it seems more responsive than before. Other than that I don't see any significant change.

Really like the speed improvements so ordered a copy. If anyone is looking for a cheaper solution VMware are offering Fusion 3.1 as an upgrade for Parallels / Vmware users for approx €7 ($9.99).

Downloaded a trial version to see how well it works for modern games. I'd absolutely love being able to play high spec requirement games without having to reboot into bootcamp.

Will post here with my results etc.

There has been some criticism of VMware Fusion slowing down Macs because it installs services which run in the background whether or not Fusion is running. Parallels 5 blew away Fusion 3 in terms of Windows performance and VMware never made the effort to get back in the competition. The fact that their response to the release of Parallels 6 is to drop the upgrade price to $10 suggests they don't have an update of their own coming any time soon.

    First set of results:

    3DMark scores:

    Bootcamp: 11K
    Parallels: 9K

Unsurprising given the graphics memory available halves with Parallels (it only supports 256MB whereas my card has 512MB, it's really something I wish they'd upgraded in the move to Parallels 6).

Had to reinstall my Bootcamp partition so games will have to wait until tomorrow for Steam to download something challenging graphics wise.

    Right tried two games:

Napoleon Total War: Very playable, graphics poor considering the graphics card I have.

RUSE: Unplayable, extremely jumpy and very low framerate.
