What kind of crappy secret is it if they're just gonna let people in on it in the second book?

I'm waiting for the other half to admit reading "the Secret" before I admit I pulled her with techniques from "The Game"......

Retarded self help book about the power of positive thinking that some people fall for without realising the reason that really good **** happens to them is because they are lucky, not that they are thinking positively. Its a classic mix-up of cause and effect.

Melted the brain of someone I deeply cared about.

Basically because its a rewording and a slim one at that of the original book, to get it back in the book sales charts.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Is it a self help book where after you read it, every positive thing that happens to you – you attribute to the book? Kind of like religion lite.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 46,938 ✭✭✭✭Nodin

Indeed. Its a "new age" version of magical practices. Instead of doing a jig and pouring water out of a bowl to make it rain, you think about rain (now updated to material wealth and "success") and will it to happen. The universe then complies. If it doesn't, its your fault, apparently. Total ****.

Yup you guys got it in one.

I'll give you a real secret thou: How to make money with a self-help book.

    Step 1: Steal underpants
    Step2 .. .... . .no wait wrong plan....nothing to see here.....

Step 1: come up with a catchy hook such as 'The Secret'
Step 2: type enough semi-coherent gibberish to fill out an average sized books
Step 3: market it to people who are affluent enough, idle enough and dim enough to buy into your hook
Step 4: sit back and reap the rewards

Yes, I read "The Power" and must say it changed my life. I was at exactly 400 pounds when I started reading it 3 months ago. Now I’m down to 399 and doing great!
I recommend the sequel "More Power" and the last in the trilogy, "Power Tower".

To be more serious, did you actually find The Secret helpful?

My girlfriend bought it for me because I was going through a bad spell. I am a cynic at the best of times but I decided I would remain open minded and read it and hope.

I managed to get to the last 2 chapters and stopped. If you can manage to get some form of help out of the books more power to you but it was one of the most absurd things I have ever read...setting a table place for the man of your dreams and leaving space in the garage for another car...mental!!

Lol. Whilst I normally disparage the Game in this case I find myself in the curious position of lauding it!

I'm confused! Oh if only someone would write a self-help book to point me in the right direction........someone......anyone..........:(

"The Truth" - by Logical Fallacy

    1) Decide what you want.
    2) Work for it.
3a) If you get it, awesome, reset your goals and initiate stage 1 and 2.
3b) If you don't get it it's not because your are not receptive to universal energy/broadcasts from the aliens that control us/out of communication with god/your inner child/your dead uncle...it's because you were not good enough to get it.

In case of 3b, get better at stuff.

    End.

No, no. Stick your hand up like you already have it and scream "By the power of Greyskull, I HAVE THE POWERRRRR!!!!!". That way the universe will give it to you (the book, not an ass reaming) and you'll have saved a few bob.

If I buy the book and burn it, will the middle aged, middle income unfulfilled legions of housewives all over the world hold mass rallies where they burn effigies of me in retaliation?? I mean I am not worried about some non existant supernatural force from the Secret striking me down when I just burn a book but I am sh!tting myself about all the housewives burning Voodoo effigies of me. Will that hurt??

haha, I agree with you whole heartedly. I think the book is helpful in terms of giving you a sort of courage to just go for things. If you feel like it's possible, I tend to invest in making it happen i.e. work harder towards it.

But maybe, that's just me (i realised I posted this in the wrong place, after by the way :)
