    Hi,

I would need mobile braodband for about an hour a day for general internet surfing and e-mail (no downloading of video files etc and was wondering over the course of a month do you think a 1Gb limit would suffice in terms of not exceeding it.

Hi Billyhead, if you go to the 3 website and check usage you will find that for 1gb you get 10 hours of browsing, 1000 emails and 32 4 minute sound tracks and 5 (4)minute video clips, taking out the sound tracks and video clips, I would guess that you would be pushing it a bit every month wondering if you are about to exceed your limit, but with careful planning i'd say you could make it. My suggestion would be to fork out the extra tenner for 15 gb as you wouldn't need to worry about anything then. Just a suggestion

get yourself an iphone or some sort of smart phone, 40 euro a month gives you phon calls text plus data allowance

most providers will give you 2gb data and then use phone as modem to laptop

I'm using the Meteor 250MB addon for €5 per month.

I mostly use it for email and google maps with a small amount of browsing.

I only ever use about 150MB max..

    I use a HTC Hero.

    Hi,

Any other feedback on my query would be appreciated. As mentioned I would only need to use the internet for e-mail, general web surfing, buying online etc for about 2 hours a week and i would not be downloading files etc.

General web surfing can consume a lot more than you night think, with all the sound and video clips in web pages you could easily exceed your limit. 1gb would be ok for smartphones though.

    go to settings
    general
    network
    turn on internet tethering

connect iphone to laptop and off you go

can connect by usb or bluetooth

Doesn't the network have to specify that the data can be used for tethering?

If it's not for tethering then the iPhone will tell the network and you will pay by kilobyte/megabyte?
