Yeah, I hate O2 but its a good bargain for a spare phone if you ever need one. I assume it comes with a SIM and will be locked to O2 like all phones the networks sell.

In fairness, Meteor used to be the ones who got mileage out of Carphone Warehouse, they had a similiar offer back 6 years ago when a relation was in college but it was for a Siemens phone on Meteor network.

Yeah I've no lectures all afternoon so I'm heading down there to see if they've any left. May cream this student thing for as much as possible :D

What's the student survival pack? Do you just stroll into CPW and ask for one? :D

    Door hangers
    Rulers
    Highlighters
    Memory Cards
    Sweets
    Treats
    Money Saving vouchers

    Just an update:

In Carlow Carephone Warehouse, the scabby yokes won't give it out without buying a phone  False advertisers!

Argh! I hate it when companies say one thing but do another. On campus.ie:
All these products can be seen and tested in store before purchase, and even if you dont want to purchase, you can still collect your free Student Survival Pack in store.
    :(

In Waterford they gave me one for free without having to buy anything. There was a 1GB microsd memory card, a pen, cereal bars a door hanger and a few jellies :) It depends on a store I suppose.

ILA this is wrong they should have given you the survival pack when you showed them your student ID card.

Carphone warehouse have set up a user name on Boards.ie, you should drop them a pm to explain what happened and hopefully they can inform the store.

think the user name is carphone warehouse ireland.

    hope you get sorted

    cheers

I was in Carphone Warehouse on Patrick's Street today and they said the offer wasn't on their system.
She said I could use the offer for 10 euro off any phone, but not the special prices for the laptops or free samsung phone.

But she did say to come back on Monday, and I forgot to ask about the Student Survival Pack :(

Got mine on monday. There was a bit of confusion at first after waiting for 40 mins for your man to sort out some chaps iPhone3's 3G but he eventually got it.

Even for a backup phone its shocking though.

Same here in the Mill in Clondalkin, they never heard about the offer, were looking at me like I was coming from another planet!

Just to note, I believe you need to register on Campus.ie (with your Student ID number) and then print out a voucher to claim the phone.

I normally hate dealing with them because they've a bit of a rep for being stingy, but for this offer I'll definately be returning and ensuring I get my phone and survival pack.

Update about the survival kit: in Liffey Valley SHopping Center the guy told me that he had to order one for me, they don't have it in the store, so he'll ring me in a few days.

No joy about the phone though, they didn't know what I was talking about.

Show the shop staff page 19 of their own brochure.
It has a list of all shops participating in the student survival pack offer including Carlow.
    or use this link. http://issuu.com/carphonewarehouse/docs/bg-sep10

There was no way the guy was going to give it out though. He didn't even ask for a student ID, it was: "you have to buy a phone".

On the campus.ie site it says the following in the T&Cs:
Only available on First time connections or ports on the O2 network
What does that mean - does one have to register with o2 or what? Im with o2 so can I just go in with the printed voucher?

    thanks,

I would interpret it to mean that only new customers to O2 can apply for the offer. However, I'd say go in with the voucher and try it because in the past I've got plenty of phones on new connections offers when an existing O2 customer, I just didn't mention it to them.

I'm currently with Vodafone so can apply for this offer.

I'm an existing O2 customer and had no problems claiming the Samsung Kai with €20 credit, this was on Thursday.

Can anyone confirm is this is unlocked to all networks?(Or just not locked to o2?)

I'd rather not take my iPhone to clubs etc.

Got it yesterday in The Square, Tallaght and they required €20 credit.

And yes, it's unlocked, I tried a Vodafone sim card in it and it's working.

A big thanks to OP. ;)

Your very welcome. I'm going in to claim mine tomorrow and hope they have some left but they don't seem to be very busy so I'll be disappointed if they try to say they're out of stock! :o

thanks to the OP for this. i got mine and didn't pay for any top up. I just gave them the voucher and they gave me the phone. Thanks again OP

great deal if you're on O2. You're gonna have to top up at some stage so might aswell get a free phone with it! It's very basic but handy as a spare and also unlocked so you could give it to someone else aswell

In Dublin you have to buy 20 euro credit

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 784 ✭✭✭thecornflake

no, when they email the voucher to you it doesn't say anything aout credit, just says you are entitled to a free samsung kai, 10e off any phone and some other deal with laptops.

I got it, and got the deal for 20e top up.

Thats what I said.20eur credit /topup same thing. You have to pay them 20 euro.

Officially the offer is buy 20 EUR credit and get the phone. If buying without the offer, the phone is 20 EUR straight and I don't know if there's any credit with it that way.

Got it on Friday 1st on Henry Street. Had to top up by 20euro, which I plan to sell to somebody - I'm not with o2

It works with my vodafone sim card. Does this mean that it is unlocked? The man in the shop said it was locked to o2.
