    Hey Lads,

I dropped my dame phone and chipped the Bezel on two corners. My excuse is the phones metal band was quiet hot and I dropped it.

Will apple repair it for free?

Has anyone got similar damage repaired, the phone is only 3 weeks old?

Im awaiting on Apple to send me my free case at the moment.

I can't see them repairing it for free but you could try. This crowd will repair it at a price but they are very good.

I had something similar before with the first gen iphone. Just said it wasn't charging properly and they replaced it. My damage was a crack on the screen about 1cm long. Didn't say anything bout dropping it. See if they say it, try your luck ;)

Why would you expect Apple to repair it for free when you dropped it?

If you want to be dishonest and lie to them you could probably get it repaired. It's your call, it's not apples fault you dropped the phone.

Looking at your photos, it appears to me that you have chipped the glass and not the bezel. Unfortunately, this is was of the most expensive exterior parts. For a cosmetic solution, a case may suffice and be cheaper.

About 2 chances they'll repair it for free! A bumper looks like it will cover all the damage including the glass if it is for cosmetic reasons. I've looked at the bumper on mine and it comes in 1 or 2 mm over the edge so it would cover it i'd say

Yeah, a bumper or a case will cover it fine. Out of sight out of mind...

No way apple will repair for free. Your looking at 211 eur from apple if u want it replaced, and chances are it will b a refurb with actual problems. Pity op didn't see my post on how important a case is for this phone http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055997575

I got a bit of a fright from the heat of it when I dropped it. Problem is apple aren't going to believe me. The screen isn't cracked at all so it's not too bad!

Apple do not begin from a stance of disbelief and will always give you a sympathetic hearing.

    these devices do get hot.

my iphone 4 has only gotten really hot once, must have been a once off on a warm day here.

when in america though my 3G S would constantly be like a hot plate in my pocket think it was the constant 3G use and the 100 degree heat that caused that though ;)

A while ago when I'd my silicone case off I noticed it got really, really hot while I was using it sitting in a car one day. Not sure if it was the sun or what but I haven't noticed it again since, but boy, was it hot.

slightly off the original topic but the phone can become very hot if left in direct sunlight. Was in Portugal last week and had the phone in direct sunlight while eating lunch, the phone got so hot that a temperature warning came up on screen and would not let me use the phone until it cooled down, took about 15mins for it cool in the shade.

Since every, every, single time, I have ever had to query anything, report a problem or discuss an issue.

Have you another number for them?

I'm trying to return an iphone 4.

Took 18 day to reply to my first email which was a response to their mail, not initial contact, and had a case number.

5 days for the next one.

Sent details, they sent another mail asking for same details again.

    Said they are swamped, hmmmmm.

Probably are swamped, but nevertheless I would always ring them, not email them. Have never been treated with less than courtesy and empathy whether I ring Cork or call into the Apple Store here in Belfast. Two weeks ago it took me all of 12 minutes to state my case, have my iphone tested and walk out with a new one.

The first mail they sent was a follow up to a phone call ;-(

Yes, that's true, I had a follow-up mail regarding a replacement MacBook Air -mainly making arrangements as to how it would be picked up.

I'm sorry to hear that you've had problems -I have never encountered any problems when I have an issue, so I guess I have been lucky.

However the point was that all inquiries/reports are, in my experience, given a sympathetic hearing -I did not claim that they would be resolved to your satisfaction or the OP's instantly or as how he/she would like.

That will be expensive to repair as the glass is bonded to the screen in the iPhone 4.
