If someone buys an Iphone 4 on their billpay account as an upgrade, will it work if I put a pay as you go sim?

As long as it's the same carrier, then yes.

dont forget that the person buying the upgraded iPhone will be still subject to the 18 month contract, they will also have to switch to a specific iPhone tarrif/price plan which may be alot more expensive than a standard price plan.

Was an idea I had. My father is due an upgrade but he'd have no interest in an iPhone so I was going to put my sim into it, same network. I'm not sure how much he is paying each month but does this mean he must take a new price plan?

Not quite. You have to stay on the iphone plan for 6 months, I think. Then you can change plans. Igot my iphone on a bill pay upgrade with vodafone but can't use it for work so i use it as payg as my personal phone

its not so much the cost of the plans, its the fact that say he is on perfect choice 400 and its 60e per month, in order to get the equivilant mins on an iPhone plan it may jump to 100e per month, it all depends on what plan your dad is on now tbh.

not quite, an 18 month contract is an 18 month contract, you can move up a plan at any time, but maybe you can move down a plan after 6 months, but it will be still to one of the iPhone specific plans.

Ah ya I get ya. Altough the €40 plan would probably be enough so it's not looking too bad ;)
