question on my first tax return??

    Hi im a s/e carpenter and im soon due my first tax return and was wondering what i can write off against tax ie workwear,insurances rent relief etc. i know you might tell me let my accountant sort it but im less than confident in his ability and knowledge as hes only starting out and hes very lazy about work in general...any help would be appreciated??

    If you're not confident in your accountant, then I'd suggest you change accountant, as an accountant I would hate to think that any of my clients had no confidence in my abilities.

    perfectly legitimate answer and TBH it's the right one. Why employ this particular accountant if your not confident in him/her.Tough luck to your relation, this is your livelihood afterall. Just go to another one, plenty of them looking for work at the moment, one of the joys of living in a capitalist society, a 'free' market.
