    Hi, can anyone help me out with this error message i receive when trying to update my phone?

    I also cannot restore the phone.
    The iPhone could not be updated at this time because the iPhone software update server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable

    Any help at all will be great.

    It could be down for maintenance. Try again in a while

    Just make sure its like the below

    hosts file is here C:WindowsSystem32driversetc

    # For example:
    #
    # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
    # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

    127.0.0.1 localhost
    ::1 localhost

    I found this in my host files. no idea where it came from or what it is, but it doesnt look right.

    Its called "umbrella" or "tiny umbrella"

    # For example:
    #
    # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
    # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

    # localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
    # 127.0.0.1 localhost
    # ::1 localhost
    #127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com

    Another file of the same name in another folder.

    Remove the time umbrella one and just have a hosts file like this....just copy and paste this

    # Copyright (c) 1993-2006 Microsoft Corp.
    #
    # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
    #
    # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
    # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
    # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
    # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
    # space.
    #
    # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
    # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
    #
    # For example:
    #
    # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
    # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

    127.0.0.1 localhost
    ::1 localhost
