I see Icelandic lawmakers are looking at charges against its former leaders for negligence, saying they turned a blind eye to the warning signs......I'd like to see some of our own charged, could it happen

That puts paid to FF's last 2 lies, then

    1) Everyone's in the same boat - it's coz of Lehman's, etc
    2) We're making the "tough but necessary decisions"

If Iceland can pull themselves through it faster than we can, then our government is doing something seriously wrong.....not really news, so.

I'd love to see it happen too. I know I've preached about it often enough here, but it'swell time we changed our rules to make people in power accountable for their actions.

Unfortunately those in power make the rules.

    1) Promise X to get elected
    2) Get elected
    3) Do Y and hope everyone forgets about X

I would reckon that a sensible move like Iceland's would have been covered under John O'Donoghue's "zero tolerance" promises, but that was pure waffle (like every other bluster bull**** that he has come out with since).

OP i think you should change your title, they are not considering jail the parlimentary commision has recommended that they be tried under a statute brought in 1905 (the year) which was brought in for basically treason. no-one has ever been tried under this law and no one knows whether it would stand under the european court of human rights

anyway thats what the bloke on the radio said this morning

Icelandic lawmakers have concluded the country's former prime minister ought to be tried for "economic negligence" over the catastrophic failure of its banking system and currency.

sweet stuff, Ahern should be in the dock for the same. Lenihan and Cowen should be standing trial for treason for the bank guarantee.

Of course the difference between Iceland and Ireland is that they surrounded the GOvernment buildings in Iceland forcing them to end their rule.

Does Iceland have a cute hoorism parish pump political system? I suspect no.

I'll scratch your back and you'll scratch mine. :)
