hello all, i am currently playing off 19 and have improved quite a bit this summer and intend on spendind the wetter months taking a session of lessons to tighten up my swing/genral game/etc.
    my bag currently contains...
    cobra fspeed driver 10.5
    matching 3 wood
    cobra irons 55deg--3 iron
calloway 60 deg X tour wedge
    Yes! c groove putter.
(apologies for the lack of detail on club names)

now i am a reasonably constient driver/iron player, my short game lets me down, also the 3,4, and 5 irons are non starters.
now ovb i need to take the long irons out and get hybrids, some pointers on how to select these would be welcome, and maybe another wedge could go in my bag.
P.S. i am not that fond of my 3 wood so it could go to make way for a set of hybrids.
    any advice appriciated...

oh and FWIW, i played the slieve russell in Cavan, amazing golf course, highly recommended a real good challenge for even the 4 handicapper playing along with me!

    thanks all

I think if you are concerned about your short game I would not worry about your clubs and focus on some drills. Especially as your Callaway wedge is a great little wedge. I have a 54 degree oil Vokey which is an absolute dream. It pitches perfectly and allows for so much control when chipping around the greens, especially from the rough. I would recommend it over the Cobra 55 degree.

One useful drill for practicing pressure-putts is to try and get 50 4 footers in a row. It forces focus and helps create pressure in a practice scenario.

For chipping it is essential to have a feel for the shot you wish to play. As you take your practice swings you should feel the club is part of your body so you can imagine how the shot will turn out based on the type of swings you take. How to do this is to practice the same shots over and over and over again. You need to persevere and have patience despite the repetitive feeling of hitting the same chip shot over again.

At 19 handicap, it is vital to become confident with your touch around the greens if you want to push yourself down to low teens. Getting up and down for par when you miss a green is key to dropping shots. It, for me, separates the hackers from the real golfers. I'll be living on the chipping green for the winter that's for sure!

You "intend taking a session of lessons" & say "any advice appreciated" re your clubs. Don't you think it would make sense to take your lessons & ask your P.G.A. qualified golf professional for his advice as he is more qualified than anyone else on this forum to give advice re your clubs or anything else to do with golf?

"feel the club is part of your body". What you on?

    7 wood essential.

If you struggle with your 3-wood and long irons I would get...
    4-wood, 7-wood and a hybrid.
Distance difference between 4-wood and 3-wood is negligible for me but a 4-wood is a lot easier to hit.

For me, the type of wedges I use don't make a lot of difference to my short game, it's all about practice when it comes to pitching and chipping.
