    Looking at the way things are now with engine development why do you think diesel engines should be allowed into or kept out of Formula 1 racing?

    With a shift towards being more environmentally friendly, I can't see diesel engines ever being introduced

    Are the engines their using now not more efficient than diesel?

    Any way the future is 1.? turbo's with kers.

    Instead of a 1.6 Turbo engine, they could have a 1.9 TDi. Probably the ideal way to finally get Volkswagen into the sport. :)

    Well I know the future seems to be placed in the small turbo powered engines but still I ask would you think diesel engines would work in the sport? The efficiency thing is an interesting point though.

    Taking regs out of it for a minute they are whopping everything in Le Mans so at least that shows the potential of what an F1 spec diesel may be able to achieve at the very least.

    Personally I dont really mind but I always wondered why Le Man had them and F1 doesnt seem to ever have talk about it.

    Now that you mentioned them isnt VW developing an F1 engine at the moment?

    I was under the impression the diesels are battering everyone because they're given an advantage under the regulations and that diesel was only brought in to get the manufacturers on board.

    However taking the regs out of it Le Mans still shows that there is potential in the diesel format for at least a semi competitive engine which could have scope for further development?

    The FIA could start asking for a blended fuel with some % biofuel or switch to 100% Biofuel

    That could be a separate debate about the way for eco friendliness that is happening a lot but I mean using diesel as a viable alternative in terms of power, performance and a race winning format considering they, depsite the possibly favourable regulations of Le Mans, can win races and be a very formidable opponent.

    Maybe there is a good reason, maybe it could never compete with the current F1 engines or even the future one, but it would be interesting for me to know why that is or is not the case.

    Personally I wouldnt want an eco friendly and environmentally efficient compromise to be made but if an alternative engine is out there that can genuinely beat current engines that happens to be more eco friendly then so be it. Though the point made about current F1 engines being the more efficient is an interesting one.

    I guess a question I have to ask is:

    Is F1 really now gearing itself towards the eco wars?
    If diesels are actually a bit more polluting but were (just for argument) much much better then current engines would F1 say no?

    I wouldn't really like to see diesel engines being used

    Just wouldn't be the same

    You'd loose the high revs, the F1 sound

    I think it would make more sense to have a horsepower cap, and let manufacturers build whatever the hell type engines they want. Then you'd see some real innovation in making engines more efficient!

    They already do:
    19.4.4 A minimum of 5.75% (m/m) of the fuel must comprise bio-components.
