Toaster Cuisine

The scenario: Everyone has gone out drinking except me. I have no money as I spent it all last night.:(

Anyways I get the hunger pangs and go in search of food. Fridge: Nothing. So onto the freezer. Lots of frozen things such as sausages and chips etc etc.

Now, I hate cooking as I am a lazy fecker. If I use the grill I will have to clean it, and tbh I cant be arsed. So I spy the toaster.....

Ten mins later I have myself some lovely toaster cooked waffles. Nom.

So guys, anyone else ever engage in creating some toaster cuisine? The sausages and the burger look like they will fit in... anyone ever do that? I would love some chips, reckon the toaster will do them too?

I used to do veggie burgers in mine.

The fat'll drip if you do burgers and sausages. Be prepared for a mess.

I have a panini maker and it makes life amazing. Just the other day I had a steak sandwich with leftover steak, havarti and some crazy BBQ sauce from the south of the US.
Took like 4 mins to make.

There used to be these toaster pizza type things out years ago, About 15 years ago is the last time I remember getting them, think they were called toasties, haven't seen them since though :(

Oh I didn't think of that!

The toaster has a slide out drawer thing to take out crumbs from making toast so maybe all the fat would land on that?

Or it could sputter and land on the elements...

I really wouldn't condone cooking meat burgers or sausages in a taoster.

If you call an oven a toaster then I'm on the same page.

What I do is get slices of white bread, put a small bit of tomato sauce on,
cut up some peppers, some onion, some gherkin. sprinkle just a bit of each
on. Then get some cheese and sprinkle it all over nicely, so it melts guuud
Then we get some lettuce and mayonnaise, cut the lettuce up fine and
lob loads of mayo on it, then apply this on top of the cheesy perrerey
bread. Then we add the rest of the onions an peppers and a bit more
cheese. Now, for the finish we get a small bit of garlic, cut it up and
sprinkle - a la carte - for the piece de resistance. In the oven for less
than 10 minutes and you have mini pizza's. Other assorted toppings like
pepperoni or sausage and rashers are welcome

Idk how you'd put that in a toaster without blowing the thing up though...

Toasting waffles is simple, I think they even advertised this as a method for a while.

You actually came on here thinking that was some sort of achievement?? :pac:

Next you'll be telling us that you whipped up some gourmet pop tarts!

Try cooking chips in the toaster, up your skillz!

You know you've hit rock bottom when you are counting the amount of chips you are stuffing into the toaster :D

You should get some of those toaster bags.
You make a durty big sandwich, stick in the little bag and pop it all in the toaster. The bag catches any dripping cheese or whatever and you can wash and re-use it.

Although the ones I had fell apart fairly quickly.

My toaster has this kind of lever thing which you push down and it makes a metal bar rise from the bottom of the slot to the top thus ejecting everything. Dead handy.

The chips turned out nice, crisp and golden. Lovely.

Yeah, you should! Much handier than mucking around with deep fat firers, vegetable oil etc...

Just whack the toaster up to maximum and press the frozen button(the one used to make toast from frozen bread). When it pops just keep pressing it down again until the chips are done!

This is the toaster I'm using!

I have one of them too, but thats a lot of effort too. Mucking around with oil and stuff. Plus its a bitch to clean.

In the same vein, I wonder if I could do rice or something in the kettle if I kept pressing the button?

Flick switch, wait 10 minutes, put in chips and wait until they are cooked, turn it off. You're hardly changing out the oil after every use and cleaning it???

Yes, I'd like to know the results of such a test. You're like Rambo and MacGyver rolled into one!!

Chips cooked in a toaster would taste like oven chips. Fat Fryer chips taste better and the extra few minutes are worth it.

Fair point. Still is slightly easier to chuck the chips in the toaster. My firer is kept in the press. And I would need to turn on the overhead fan, which in the case of midnight snack making, could be an issue.

My one isnt stored away, its out in the garage, ready to go. I'd still favour the fryer though.

Not enough water after absorption & limescale stuck to the rice? (i'm in a hard water area)

I'm sure the ESB will be first thing hit during the apocalypse!!

Ah I might give it a go tomorrow! Might boil some spuds or carrots in the kettle. What could go wrong?

And as for the toaster, I would be wary of doing burgers as it is mince so it needs to be cooked thoroughly. But steak is another matter!

So anyone up for kettle boiled spuds and carrots(one spud and a chopped carrot should fit) and toaster done steak?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,039 ✭✭✭face1990

In theory anything that can be cooked under a grill could be done in the toaster. The main difficulty is the vertical nature of toaster-cooking which prevents us cooking anything that could drip.
