I have a regular Garmin satnav I use in the car, in traffic etc I would select options to go places or whatever. However the iphone being a phone and even if I am using it specially as a Satnav via the TomTom app is there any legality issues with me touching the screen whilst driving? If I was seen using a phone in the car I could be done for it but since this phone will be mounted on my windscreen for use as a satnav where do I stand if I am found to be selecting destinations, poi's etc whilst sitting in traffic or even on the go?

    Thanks

As previous poster said legally you can't fiddle with any handheld device while driving hence garmin introduced voice recognition in some of their products. However I've yet to hear of anyone who has got points for using a sat nav! I know plenty who have been dons for texting and taking calls. As for the iPhone well technically it's a phone so it's up to whoever stops you to call it.

As for the tomtom app I have it and use it all the time and have mine stuck on the windscreen. I've never been stopped. But as a rule of thumb I'd never try fiddle with it while driving as it's too fiddley.

I'm not impressed with this app at all. The guidance arrow just goes off the map when I go around corners... It's like it does not recognise bends or something.. And then it jumps back on the map again. What's going on with that? I'm using a 3GS.
