No a lot of garages seem to be doing that these days. Used to be the case that the advertised price was a trade in price, now it seems to be swinging towards a the cash price being the advertised price.

What does the content of the ad say?

Report them to carzone I assume you mean? You could but don't expect too much joy out of it. Dealers are paying a lot of money to advertise their cars on Carzone so its not likely the people who run Carzone are going to do anything much to upset them either. I reported a very misleading ad on Carzone some time back and heard absolutely nothing back. It was misleading to the point of being downright dishonest.

thought carzone issued a warning to dealers for doing that

They did at one point, but I don't know how well it was followed up upon. The warning went out over a year ago, and basically told Dealers to cop the fcuk on. There was a lot of messy advertising going on, straight sale prices, prices ex VRT, no prices on all stock at certain Dealerships.

Whenever Ive seen it they have specified that the price advertised is a cash price. Id not be impressed if they didnt say it, but there is absolutely nothing in law to say they have to honor the advertised price, so apart from acting the bollox theyre not doing a lot wrong. They may end up with a lot of pissed off former potential customers tho...

Whats the big deal. Garage possibly trying to screw as much cash as possible from customer. You still know the cash price so you can figure what he is really giving you for your trade in. Depending on car, there may be also lots of room for movement on the 'cash price' too.
If you feel they are taking the piss or are not happy in any way, just walk away and tell the the odd pricing has lost them the sale

it doesnt state in the ad " cash price "

i found it missleading and i for one wont go back to them

If I advertise a product at a certain price shouldn't I be obliged to sell said product at that price based on a straight deal?

If a trade-in is mentioned however, the 'price' becomes irrelevant and all you should consider is the 'cost to change'.

Nope. Theres nothing in law to say you have to honor the advertised price. Its like supermarkets who put the wrong price on the shelf; while many will honor this price as a goodwill gesture, there is nothing to say they have to do this.

    I'm pretty sure there is!

If I go in to a shop and a bottle of beer is advertised at €2 and the code price on the till is say, €2.50 have I not the right to only pay what it's advertised at? I've *heard* before of supermarkets doing this to drive their profits but I've yet to experience / notice it so no proof.

Trust me, unless something has come into law very recently, they have no obligation to honor the price on the pricetag! I used to get this quite a bit when working in a supermarket and I looked into it at the time.

It's called invitation to treat. Albeit for shop goods the shop can be fined if their price labeling is inaccurate.

the sticker price is only an invitation to tender, once you get to the till, the displayed price and receipt is the contract as such.

you as the consumer have the right to not go ahead with the purchase based on the till price, although most decent places will sell at the displayed price to keep the customer happy.

TBH it's all semantics. They could just as easily sell the OP the car for €13950 and give a grand less for the trade in - the only figure that matters is the cost to change.

We have been advertising our cars this way for quite a while now and it seems to be driving sales. the only time someone complains is when they do not read the entire ad. Every ad has in capitals at the bottom that this is a straight sale price and also gives the trade in price

Seems perfectly fair to me anyway. As long as you mention it's a straight sale price...
