Columbia, to go or not to go!

    Hello there, as i have worked the whole summer and the weather wasn't great I'm looking for a warm exotic destination for Christmas... i want a bit of lounging by the sea and then throw in a bit hiking in the jungle Columbia sounds good... has anyone done anything like this and recommend it or tel me I'm mad!
    any suggestions thoughts or even random comments appreciated!

    I wouldn't suggest going to Colombia, it was up to decade ago the highest murder rate worldwide, and there are still illegal guerillas in the jungles. look up Colombias wikitravel page.

    I would recommend Burma for experiencing the jungle, would cost roughly the same as Colombia.

    I've been to Colombia and would say it was my favourite country in South America. I know plenty of people who've been and haven't had any problems (Venezuela being a different story). Don't have time to write a full reply but do a search and you'll find that other people here have had good experiences there too. I highly recommend the Ciudad Perdida trek. I didn't have enough time for lounging by the sea, but Parque Nacional Tayrona sounds fab.
