used to love my 501's with my nike air max, or my reebok pumps and my denim shirt, good times!!

I've seen people ask on here before about them, some of us oul arses still wear them! I find it hard to get jeans that fit as comfortably and at 47 I can't exactly wear ripped jeans like all you cool kids.

Haven't worn 501s in years, not since I discovered Old Navy ones for about $20 a pair (even at that I used to buy my 501s stateside for $40ish. Nowadays the jeans in dunnes look decent, I don't know if it's me getting old or the fashion getting better...

Nearly 80 euro for a pair of jeans? No recession for you i see!

Im wearing jeans from 5 years ago (few levis) but all my recent ones are pennys/dunnes.
And ya know what? No one cares. Its only jeans...

Yes, but the Levis don't turn your legs blue

Why are branded jeans so much more expensive in Ireland?

Wranglers/Levis etc are far cheaper in the US.

Have a couple of pairs of branded jeans myself.

But wear jeans from the chain stores a bit - eg. Tescos, Dunnes.

Price seems to be the biggest difference bewteen them IMO.

    Yup totally true.
I have one pair of Levis and various other jeans from dunnes,
pennies and a few other places. If I was blindfolded I could easily
tell that I was wearing the 501s due to their comfort.:)

Can't afford to buy more of them though...

While I appreciate a 25% discount is a nice bargain.........25% off expensive is still expensive.

I do not think this is a bargain alert tbh

I don't think this is a bargain either, Tesco Value jeans FTW! :D

This should be in the rip off thread and not the bargain thread. I buy levis online for 40 or 50 us dollars. This is why place like arrnots are going bust. Charging ridiculous prices for clothes

Ive used mandm to order jeans before there pretty cheap. I also use myusabox.com and order stuff in u.s stores and then get it forwarded. If im doing that ill order a few items from different places then get its shipped to dublin together. But you have to be careful doing this as if it doesn't fit it can be hard to return. I refuse to pay the outrageous prices that irish retailers try to get away with.

    For example:

    http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=471228&CategoryID=47013 =44 us

    myusamailbox 36 us dollar shipping.

Thats 80 us dollars for one pair which is 62 euro but if you ship a load of stuff together the cost goes down more.

    They are alternatives to Levis.

Dunnes, Pennys, Tesco, M+S, Next etc.

Sure, people go for the brand - but alternatives are out there.

Are levis worth multiples of a pair of jeans from a chain store?

There better quality and last longer. I dont care about brands ive bought jeans from dunnes and m and s and they dont last as long as levis. ill happy spend 40 or 50 euros jeans or trousers that will last but 90 euros is a joke.

Not at all, I've got pairs form old NAvy about 12 years old, still going strong (although they may have (ahem) *shrunk in the wash* over the years....

I think they're expensive but I'd kind of agree with that for the wear. I've a pair of Levis I bought in 2001 (getting a bit tight around the waist now, must have shrunk in the wash :D) and they still look good.

I've tried Gap, Next and other places in Ireland and I get a year out of them before they start to look crap.

I'll be looking into those Old Navy and Macys links above next though.

Yep, people still wear jeans and many people do not give a damn about what brand is supposedly "cool" -I leave the worrying to the dedicated followers of fashion with their frilly nylon panties, I feel sorry for blokes like that. I find them a good fit and don't think I ever had any trouble with them, like buttons falling off, or zips failing -I have with other brands.

Yes, I would never pay €70 for a pair, I actually thought this thread was a windup, I think they are good value -for what I pay. You can get them in shaws in dun laoghaire on offer sometimes.

They do - you'll find their shipping rates here:

Never used them myself. Use a combination of relatives & a remail service for anything I buy from the US -- which hasn't been a lot lately.

Bought a couple of pairs of 501s myself while in the US around this time last year and they're starting to wear through in a couple of places already. That said they are extremely comfortable and I wear jeans every day so I'm getting my moneys worth out of them.

US prices are good for Levis 501 alright but for an option closer to home the Levis shop in the Junction One outlets north of Belfast sell 2 501s for 65 sterling which isn't bad.

As the OP of this 'Bargain Alert' apologies to all that seem to be offended by it. I was looking for Levi's earlier in the summer and very few places sell them in Dublin. Of the few that do, BT and Arnott's were selling them for €120 and naturally I didn't go near them with a barge pole. I bought a pair of Aztec jeans for €20 elsewhere and they cut the balls off me and they were too tight around the ankles. I don't give a sh1te about labels, believe me.

When I saw the Levi's for under €71 I thought it was a bargain, compared to what you'll pay elsewhere here, plus you get to try them on and select the colour you want, plus you have the option of changing them if you're not happy. Yes, €71 is still too much, but there's nothing like a comfortable pair of jeans to lounge around in. Once again apologies to all, my excitement to tell the world got the better of me.

I don't think there's need for apologies. It's kind of annoying when somebody posts a bargain or cheap price and then somebody posts that you can get it cheaper in the UK or the US. Fantastic. If I lived in the UK or the US it's relevant. If you're annoyed enough about the price difference there's a Rip Off Ireland thread. It happens a fair bit now in Bargain Alerts. It didn't used to.

What is relevant though is the posting of links where somebody in Ireland can purchase from online or alternative shops (that are preferably in the same country) I can visit. Your point about trying on the jeans is spot on. Nobody has posted a cheaper price than yours for Levis where I can try them on before buying them. It's not necessarily a super bargain but if somebody was looking to buy Levis close to them then we all have the price in Debenhams. I seem to have a body that is a 31 leg on some jeans and 32 leg on others. It's not a bargain if I buy jeans online and then have to spend time and money to get them altered or more likely just leave them in the wardrobe forever.

If somebody isn't interested in Levis you'd have to wonder why they click on a Levis thread to post "does anybody still wear Levis". That seems pointless to me.

That's gas, I too am normally a 31' inside leg which aren't available, but on this occasion I had to get a 30' as the 32' option was way too long (ahh the benefits of trying them on!!). I think what will happen in Bargain Alerts is that people will think twice about posting, it looks to me like a few people were just having a bit of fun, but one guy said I'd paid 'almost €80!' I'm glad he's not in charge of rounding up my utility bills!
