Stupid shipping/bidding setting on ebay!!!!

I'm so annoyed. I've missed out on 2 absolute bargains on ebay recently because they've changed their selling format over the last few months. The first time I saw a bag I really wanted but the auto setting said UK bidders only. I contacted the seller to find out their postage to Ireland on the off chance the might reply. Got the reply so was all happy and waited til the auction was ending to bid. Went to bid but got a message saying the buyer only accepted bids from the UK. Gorgeous guess bag, new with tags, went for about £10 I was gutted.

Saw a lovely Karen Millen skirt this week, contacted the seller and got the postage cost. Tried bidding early and got the UK bids only message. I contacted the seller to ask if they could change it and they tried but said they were unable to change that setting during an auction. Lost out on the skirt for £10 less than I was going to put in for a max bid - and the worst thing is there was only one bid!

It seems like a lot of UK sellers are unaware that they are limiting themselves because I've contacted a few this week to get postage costs and they have replied but when I try to bid I get the UK only message.

Sorry for the rant had a crap week and was all excited about buying the skirt to treat myself! Thought it might save other people some disappointment too!

I used to hate that when I used to buy from ebay all the time.
I used to bid anyway as long as in the item notes they hadn't written 'no overseas bidders', if the bid went through i'd send them an email saying 'sorry i didnt notice this was UK only, I live in Ireland, if I win will this be a problem' 99 times out of a 100 they had no problem with it.

If you do try to bid and the bid won't go through then email them and ask will they ship to ireland and include the link for how they can change their buyer restrictions and say that they might have to change them to allow you to bid.

It won't allow me to bid at all. I did email the seller today but they said they'd tried and couldn't change the settings during an auction?

They have a couple of options I think, either to change it to allow Irish customers to bid or just use your ebay id to allow you to be exempt from restrictions, it can def be changed while an auction is ongoing,

Forward them this link http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/sell/buyer-requirements.html and tell them to scroll to the bottom where you can make an exemption list

They can change that during auction, its just annoying to do so.

Another option could be to change your address on ebay to UK? Leave paypal as Ireland though

I thought your address and paypal address had to match? It would be very handy if not though!

Can you not just log into ebay.co.uk instead of ebay.ie and bid for it then?

    It was on ebay.co.uk
There's a new setting (hadn't been on ebay for a few months so don't know how new)
Normally when you go into the "contact seller" bit you just asked your question. Now there's a list of pre-answered questions and it seems like most sellers don't realise that one of them is set to "no international postage". I'm assuming this because I contacted about ten sellers yesterday who had this auto-set and they all sent me postage costs to Ireland.

This is an absolute pain in the arse, I know! I'm in the UK now, but can't afford to bid on anything, so its a catch 22 really.
