I have a massive problem and i think it may be a virus.

Whenever i switch on my laptop, i can enter my username and password fine and it goes to the desktop, it then freezes. I cant do anything. I dont know how to fix it as its all frozen when its on. What do i do?

I am in an internet cafe writing this as i cant use my own laptop.

And if i stick in the disk to wipe it clean and erase everything (i hope i dont have to do this) is there anyway to keep my files?

First thing is just to see if the computer starts in Safe Mode. When it's booting up, tap the F8 key repeatedly until a menu comes up. Then select Safe Mode and see what happens..

It's very unlikely that you need lose anything.

What Version of Windows are you running.

When it "freezes" describe exactly what is on the screen.

What colour is the screen, do you have icons on the screen, can you move the cursor.

If you press Ctr+Alt+Del does anything happen.

If it does and you can open task manager click file -> run type in explorer.exe
    Does anything happen
