I can get a golf buddy pro for $200 in USA. They are E280 here.If my brother purchases it as a 'gift'(he lives over there) and posts it to me can I be done for customs? Also nay advantage to getting the tour version? It's in colour. Would appreciate any comments from owners.

If he labels it a gift you should be grand. I've a bro in Canada and pal in New Jersey and have had parcels send from both with no repercussions customs wise. Nice saving there, going over myself in two weeks, ya have me thinking of an early Xmas present for meself! :)

Just looking at the above device... is there a way of finding out which courses are preloaded?

Dunno about the gps but you won't get stung of its a gift. I get a good bit from the us and if they did want you to pay it would only be around 15 euro if its worth 200!

Click here for a list of courses

Good device, all courses are free and over 350 in Ireland alone covered.

I am also getting a relation to send one from the states (would prefer to spend the money here but the price saving is just too much).

Anyone know if the Tour colour screen makes any real difference and whether it is worth considering the newer Golfbuddy Platinum or maybe the SkyCaddie GSX (SkyCaddie annual sub is offputting without knowing if the GSX is much better than the Golfbuddy)

    :)

Well the good news is that it ahs arrived and no customs!
Bad news is that I cant download any golf courses onto it. I connect it to laptop, have downloaded GB manager and a message comes up saying that it doesn't recognise port. Customer support have been unable to help me. Anyone had this problem?

Sorry I can't help you with your problem nail but quick one for anyone getting an item sent home from a family member / friend etc. Get them to open the packet, turn on device & maybe use it once. Customs cannot be charged on secondhand items.

Is it not a usb device?
If it is, is there software you need to run off their site first in order to recognise the device?

If it a serial port jobbie then I dunno, been a long time since I got anything that wasn't usb.

I think the same thing happened to me the first time i connected mine to the computer. Keep trying things like uninstalling the software from your computer, and start from scratch again - i can't remember how i got mine to work, but keep trying - i'll be surprised if you can't get it going.

Guys just a quick question. If a course changes its layout, how quickly does golfbuddy update, example, course nearby removed a Par 3 and rerouted the hole in another direction.

Your best bet is to inform the golfbuddy website of the change, and they will then arrange for one of their survey guys to visit the course and make the changes. I have no idea how long it will take but my guess is 4 - 6 weeks after you make the request.

Hi lads, just wondering how you got on with Golf Buddy bought in the States, did you have any trouble with it recognising courses in Ireland, are they pre loaded or did you need to download them. My brother is thinking of getting one on a visit to the states soon. Just wanted to check if it works here.

    Thanks

    Hi,
i had problems. Kept getting an error up ' unable to sync'. Tried different laptops bur no go. Technical support from golf buddy appalling- poor english and pretty useless Needed to post back to uSA. Second one worked ok. I would recommend buying locally after the problems I have encountered.
