Body Mass Index (BMI) requirement?

I was talking to a man whose wife works in the Garda civilian support staff and he mentioned that there is a Body Mass Index (BMI) requirement for recruitment?

I've never heard this before, only that there was a medical with the CMO who approves you if your reasonably fit and healthy and then you just have to complete physical competency test.

I know that 24.9 is the ideal BMI, but there's plenty of fit people over that and, no offence to anyone, plenty of serving Gardai over that requirement (although I know it doesn't count once your inside)

as long as your bmi is under 30 you will pass the medical

Your BMI is calculated during the PCT....
Below 30 is accepted although people over 30 (people big into lifting weights) can be approved with a doctors cert to prove they are not obese/overweight and are fit.

Thanks for the info! I was getting panicked because I'm a bit over 30 but am into weight training and some light body building so that should be ok, but 24 would be unrealistic for most people.
