external hd failing

    realised some mp3s werent transferring, discovered now its slowly dying, any recommendations on some software to try pull the guts of the data off?

    Apologies in advance for the following post sounding like an advertisement...


    I've used and like R-Studio for Windows. It not free, unfortunately, but it's got everything that you'd need. Including, importantly, the ability to make disk images. If you make an image of the failing hard disk drive and save it on your own PC then you should be able to recover stuff even if the orignal fails entirely.


    Though I'd also like to hear any (free!) alternatives that other posters would recommend... :)
