Point in having an iPod Touch AND iPhone?

Hey guys, just looking for some of your advice!

So long story short, I'm currently working in the USA and finishing up at the end of next week. I've been in need of a replacement mp3 player for quite some time now and frankly the idea of the iPod Touch 4 (especially at US prices) is really appealing to me. More to the point, when I arrive back to Ireland my dad is upgrading his iPhone 3GS, so he's planning on giving me that for free....

Basically my question is, is it worth forking out $229+ for the Ipod touch, if I'm going to get an Iphone regardless? I listen to music quite a lot, and will have at least 30 mins, of listening every week day (commute to work), combined with general music play and more at the weekends... I know the Iphone doesn't have the best battery in the world, so having a separate media device does appeal to me. Also will be using the train quite a bit, so plan on using a device to watch movies/tv shows/podcasts to pass the 3hour journey..

Hope any more experienced Apple users might be able to offer their 10c. Appreciate it guys!

If you have both you'll never use your Touch. Phone does it all. Battery is fine, get a cable for work and home.

The 3GS will do just fine.

US prices are generally the same, I had planned on getting an iPad over there for €100 cheaper than here but when I went to buy, the price advertised on the apple site didn't include tax, like most things for sale in the states and Canada. With the 13% tax added on it was only a few quid cheaper. Unless the departure airport sells them in duty free.

Keep the cash instead of buying the touch , sell the 3gs when you get it and buy an IP4 .

    +1, good answer :D

keep the few quid, get the 3Gs and sell it on adverts, then put a few quid towards it to get an iPhone 4.
