pump shower

I moved into my new house almost 2 years ago and have an electric shower in my en suite and the main shower is a pump shower. I mostly use the electric shower.

when I put the emersion on and use the pump shower the water is extremely hot, and if I don't use the emersion (i.e. let it heat from the boiler) it's fine. I am wondering does anyone know if there is a temperature gauge in the hotpress, have taken a look but can't find one or do I need to call the plumber who installed this out again. I have had him out before about 12 months ago and said that there didn't seem to be anything wrong with it.

also I have a problem with my thermostate, the one to control the heat downstairs if fine, you can turn it down and the temperature goes down but the one upstairs doesn't work, if you turn it down nothing happens.

I am guessing you prob have a manual pumped shower rather than a thermostatic shower and if this is the case unfor there is not a whole lot you can do except put a cylinder stat of sorts that turns off the immersion when hot enough.

Although in my experience these dont work well.

My house is the only one in the Estate that does this, I have asked my neighbours and they have had no problems and they moved in about 2 weeks before me.

It's just when I have friends over and they use the main shower obviously I don't want them getting burnt!

Actually i thought of another solution a while ago. You can ask a plumber to fit a thermostatic blending valve to blend the hot water with cold before it enters the shower.

Check with one of my neighbours and in her hot press she has a small box which says main at one end and auto at the other end and then a switch to go between them, her's was on auto and mine was on main so going to see if I switch it to auto if it makes any difference.

Does the immersion have a thermostat and is it set to 65 C ?

I checked in my hotpress and couldn't find one and my neighbour checked in hers and couldn't locate one either. I guess there has to be one in there somewhere, I will ask the builder the next time he is around.

The stat is usually a part of the immersion, if you remove the cover of the immersion you will see the stat, i think:)

I have come across a similar problem before, the cold feed to the pump shower had its own valve in the attic. The problem here was that the valve was not opened up enough to mix with the hot water.

This maybe of use to you.
