The big differnce you are missing here is 17inch to 15inch. This is a big factor if you want to carry the laptop to college etc every day. There is nearly 1kg in weight difference.

The i3 and T4500 are similar in performance, while the i3 will probably give slightly better battery life.

The hd 4330 >> intel HD graphics. The 4330 is a weak card but will allow light gaming, better driver support and better HD encoding.

The HP will probably have better battery life and better portability and but the MSI will give better performance with extra ram, dedicated gpu and higher resolution screen.

    Cheers for the replies, guys.

Think I'll be going for the HP as I really don't want anything bigger than a 15" screen.

I probably won't be doing any gaming on it either , maybe some Football Manager but that would be about it, so that graphics card isn't a major concern.

What will you be using it for? If it is something you will be lugging around every day, i seriously would consider something in the 12/13" range. I used to lug in a Dell 6400 15" 3kg monster to college every day and it was terrible, just the size and weight of it made it such a chore. I just got a Dell D430 for free a little over a month ago, which is a 12" and it's great, it does what i need it to do, it's big enough to type comfortably on for hours and it gets 6 hours plus battery life, all the while weighing very little and taking up not much space in my bag. The D430 is a couple of years old at this stage, so technology has moved on a good bit, meaning you can buy something faster and more efficient for the same price, or lower than the above.

Well, I will be needing it for college work but I don't think I'll actually be needing to have it with me in college that often.

I really want something with half decent spec that won't be too dated in years to come and I think what you get on the HP is the minimum I'd settle for.

I had thought about getting something around the 13" mark before but it seems a little small as I know I'd end up watching films/tv with my girlfriend on the train home.

you should look into acer timeline dual graphic card laptops...i have 5810T. Got ATI card on it for some games and if i need 9 hours battery life for college it switches to intel card for battery :) mine weights nothing and under 1" thick :) handy for carrying around college and on the go

I had a look at that Acer there and it sounds quite good but it's about £100 more expensive than the HP which already has my budget maxed with delivery and conversion rate.

On the whole games subject, I can't really see me needing something that capable as I own a PS3 so that can keep me entertained.

Thanks again for the input, though.
