    Hi all,
My Dad was going to take out an old pipe in our water tank as it is no longer used, but he noticed that there was a wire connected to the pipe which seems to be an earthing wire. Is this wire necessary? I'd never heard of earthing a water tank before, so I thought I'd ask you knowledgeable folk :).

its the copper pipe circuits in the house that are being earthed, not the tank per se. its best left as is, can remove pipe from tank but best leave or replace earth as it may not be done else where: check hot press/immersion etc

As Carlow 52 says, the copper pipes in the house might not be earthed any where else so it would be best to extend this earth to the next nearest pipe if possible, just on the safe side.
