BMW 750i

Had a BMW 750i overnight last night just thought I'd share my thoughts. Not mad on the styling but dont hate it either, its just a bit American or something around the rear with the chrome strip.

Initially it feels heavy - because it is. Pop it into Sport mode (both chassis & powertrain) and it sharpens up a lot. Its a 4.4 V8 with 400bhp and its a gorgeous engine. Silky smooth and with a lovely linear power delivery it really suits the car. Felt like just the right amount of power - any more would have been intimidating on back roads in something so large. The ride is good I had expected it to be worse from reading reviews. I had it in sport most of the time and found it decent. It can be a bit choppy at low speeds and to be fair the impact harshness is pretty poor, but overall thought it was perfectly acceptable.

Handles exceptionally well, lovely balance and poise. Shrinks in the twisty stuff and really gives you loads of confidence to push on.

The indicators piss me off - the one/two stage thingys are a pain for overtaking.

    Overall I was very impressed.

    Porsche Cayenne GTS tonight :)

Surely you have had a 750 into the jaguar engineering works before now for research purposes.

Slightly off topic I know but I hate those Cayennes, I reckopn they're the ugliest yoke on the roads.

    IMO of course:)

I'd say probably a brand new one since that sounds like the 4.4 Twin Turbo that produces 400BHP.

Undoubtably a new one, any pics OP? A lad from Holland posted pictures of his 760li recently on a different forum, it is beyond amazing, absolutely spectacular. BMWs most powerful engine to date too.

I was passed a couple of weeks ago, on the M1 southbound by a new 740d closely followed by (an old model) A8 4.2Tdi. Both NI reg.

    Decisions, decisions......

740d will only be €630 to tax so maybe in a few years time. Can't imagine there will be many (if any) 750's registered ROI :(

    Of course.

    He said overnight though ;)

With a few thousand engineers working in R&D, you're not gonna get to drive every car on the market either - especially not with an opportunity to take home overnight.
