Right, so just so i'm not mistaken, this is the thread title

"New "Kings Of Leon" track "Radioactivity""

Yet the two of ye both came in to say the band are shíte and always have been, without even referencing the song, a song you probably haven't even listened to, can I ask a question?

    What's the f*cking point?

Pardon me. I listened to the track, wondering if I would like it. I dislike it.

Oh sorry, it was hard to tell, in future, hopefully your reviews contain a small bit more than "QFT".

Well that was actually my third post on the thread, but for you I will make the effort.

I can understand people thread on the poor OBTN and this seems to be a poor song too IMO, but i can't understand people threading on Because of the Times. I thought that was a beast of a album. Knocked Up, True Love Way, My Party, Camaro, Charmer, On Call, Fans, Black Thumbnail, etc all quality tunes.

I don't get why people are getting slagged for saying the new KOL are ****. They are. They're releasing muck at the minute and seem to be very happy with the fact. Saw them in the Temple Bar Music centre in '04 and RDS in '07 and it was unreal. Saw them in London a year or two back and it was like being at a childline concert, not that there's anything wrong with that and a band's crowd isn't going to put me off their music but, , , come on like. WTF?

Just putting this here as i got a good laugh out of it. Appreciate it if any fallout from that article goes in the music forum. This threads for the new song - which is garbage imo.

sure the song isnt their best but its not that bad and gets better after a few listens. As for their last album i liked and personally think Cold Desert is their best song ever

Ye BOTT was a beast of an album that i still enjoy, however it was the beginning of the over production that has wrecked their sound for me. BOTT could of been even better, Third House should of been on it (for me one of their best songs). On Call is good, but I think it sounds much better here (when they played it live on the Aha tour, without the over production):

New song is ok, and ill still have a listen to the album, but im not looking forward to it like I was BOTT or OBTN.

I hate the Kings of Leon now not because they changed their sound or are sell outs. I hate them because their last album was terrible.

I never got the "Southern Rock" tag, I was never a fan but weren't they just a pretty standard Garage Rock band with Southern-American accents?

These days, their clearly writing songs built around the concept of stadium gigs and headlining large festivals, making sh!t loads of cash and enemies as a result.

    Come Around Sundown.

    I'm liking it.

This should be in the pop forum.

KOL are a pop band. You can doubt a band when a girl puts on her facebook that her favourite artist is Rhianna and KOL.

Radio friendly rubbish and they really are controlled by their image. All about the money and not the music I suppose. They are rednecks after all.

Yep im liking this new album so far. Have listened twice now and it seems better than Only By the Night so far.

Will reserve judgement until I have a few more listens.

new album is ok, nothing more. A few good songs but the rest feel like filler. Production value is too high, songs are too glossy.

Its actually not too bad an album, dosent touch their early ones of course but not bad, but its still way overproduced and song dont seem to feel natural.

"Mary" is probably one of the worst songs they have ever done though

I feel exactly the same way. I like the album better now after a few listens and there are around 6 songs that i will continue to listen to and enjoy. However, they will never return to the greatness of Aha Shake Heartbreak.

I actually hurts me to listen to Mary, sounds like supergrass or something. I hear it's very good live though and the recording doesn't do it justice.

Pyro and Pickup truck are standout tracks

I like KOL but this album had no authenticity to it - it didn't have their stamp on it imo

Strangely I like Radioactive - it's no california waiting, the bucket etc. etc. but it stands out from the rest of the tracks which combined give the album an overall feeling of 'meh' for me which is disappointing tbh :(

Ive listened to to the new album quite a bit over the last few days, way better than the last effort.

If this was a new band on the scene everyone would be raving about this album, but because they set the bar so high with some of their previous efforts the new albums are always goign to be viewed by the masses as "crap".

Love this album, its a real grower. Give it a proper listen before writing it of. Although Mary is an awful song.

True, at this stage the band has gotten too big and are more likely to be viewed as "sellouts".

The problem was that someone said in an interview that they were going "back to their roots" which people (like myself) took to mean that they were going back to something like Youth & Young Manhood or Aha Shake Heartbreak. It turns out they meant their country/gospel choir roots. Liking the album a lot more now after the initial impression.

My only problem is that they have admitted that a few of the songs were rehashes or failed songs that they resurrected. They shouldn't be admitting that, i think it tarnishes the credibility of the album.

This is a typical example of how its now "cool" to hate KOL.

You should really form your own opinion rather than discounting a band because a girl likes them too!

pyro, the end,the face and pickup truck are fantastic songs ,i dont care what album it is.ive never seen a band polarise opinion like kol.i must admit though i do get riled at their setlist choice and by the clientel that frequent their shows now.i remember seeing them in the temple bar music centre and when they supported the pixies in lansdowne road during bud rising.how cool were they then.

youth and young manhood is my favourite album of all time and trani is #1 in my top 25 most played songs on my ipod.i know its cliche to say "oh i liked them before they were popular" but sometimes i wish they would drop sex on fire and use somebody from the setlist for good to get the 16 year old peroxide d4 teenagers to shag off.

they went from singing about prostitutes (red morning light, arizona)
    deviant religious preachers(holy roller novocaine)
police brutality on a crack head transexual(trani)
    erectile dysfunction(soft)
shagging underage girls and groupies(pistol of fire, slow night so long)
    murdering illicit lovers(joes head)

to " you know that i could use somebody". now i like all the aformentioned songs sex on fire and use somebody included but i hate what they stand for now and i hate what they attract.i hate that they have slowed mollys chambers down when they play it live,i hate that they dont smash up stuff like they used to(t in the park aside).i hate that their old 3 minute barn burners are being squeezed from the setlist and being replaced by songs that my mother now sings too and she is 49.ill never say i dont like them, they are my favourite band ever but christ they frustrate me. it really is like listening to two different bands sometimes.in the car /gym etc im listening to red morning light ,the bucket, etc and then when you listen on the radio or go to see them live your served up with in my opinion their worst stuff.

what annoys me the most though is that they got famous from some of their worst songs by a mile.sex on fire was voted #2 in fannings fab 50 last year. i dont think anything off their other albums ever got in to it.

its a travesty but what can you do......................................you kick the bucket and ill swing my legs

Album is being streamed today on entertainment.ie for anyone interested.

I saw somewhere that Caleb said that there was a bit of "youth and young manhood" in this album, listening to it now though and can't detect anything resembling their earlier stuff, i'll probably listen to it twice tonight and try to keep an open mind... not holding much hope though.

I think there was an interview somewhere before their last record came out that said they didn't have to put much work into the new record because after your third record people don't give a ****....This annoys me on so many levels and is a testament to how bad of a band they really are.

heard the album last night and im very disappointed, forget the last single, I forgot about it the min the song was over which is a bad sign.

I still remember the first time I ever heard them, first album was so brilliant forward less than 10 years later and it seems to me they just didnt bother much with this last one.

    sad little me
