I have to applaud them for taking a new direction with their music after the criticism they got. But this song is dreadful, I hope I never have to hear it again. I think this is the begining of the end for KOL.

    Oh Jebus it's horrid:eek:

Cue the onslaught of friends on facebook posting this as their favourite new song and all that jazz!!! Can't wait:rolleyes:

I was desperately dissapointed by their last album and so I decide I was going to give them one last chance to redeem themselves with this one but on this showing Im afraid they have sunk into the realms of nothingness in my eyes. Sad!

The video is total muck, cannot believe they went along with such BS!!
But I do like the tune:pac: Its been around since between the recording of AHA and BOTT and to me it definitely fits in with the feel of BOTT.

But yeah...I miss old Caleb and his squawking :(

Ah, the golden days of Kings of Leon, I remember those

Oh wait, they never existed and this band were always sh1te.

    My mistake!

What possess bands to make complete tools of themselves for that extra bit of recognition?.

The slating they will get for this shall be mighty!.

Blah blah blah sellouts blah blah mainstream blah blah I LIKED THEM BEFORE THEY WERE FAMOUS HOW DARE THEY BE SUCCESSFUL!!1! blah blah typical self-righteous anti-KOL rabble.

    Vid is shít though.

I think people are overreacting a bit about the song itself, it hasn't blown me away on the first few listens but its not horrible by any means.

The video on the other hand, is astoundingly bad. Truly shocking. I have to look away from the screen when listening to it. The terrible shot of the two kids running up to Jared to hug him in the cornfield will live long in the memory.

Don't particularly like the song but I think the backlash is a bit harsh. Sure sex on fire wasn't the best but the last album had some really good songs like Closer, Notion and Revelry.
I do think they should go away for a while. They seem to be in Ireland all the time.
Is this song off a new album?

I've heard worse. But... how dare they become famous.

    And worse...POPULAR!!!

It's not the fame or popularity people have a problem with.

It's that KOL have ditched their roots and their raw guitar driven sound which got them noticed in the first place, and replaced it with an over produced cookie cutter "rock band" sound.

People speaking about this song keep saying how KOL's sound is evolving, But this track sounds like it could have fitted anywhere on the last 2 albums.

Not much of a tune for a lead single from the "long awaited" album is it ?

Disappointing, as for the video eh biggest pile of cheese.

Pity they had some good stuff. Not so much on the last album.

I see they haven't announced a date for Ireland so far this tour.

blah blah blah, i liked kings of leon no matter what album genre blah blah blah everyone else with an opinion of them that might of changed is just a scene head blah blah blah new vid's sh1t blah blah..

    Who gives a toss.

Its the same stuff they put out in the last couple of albums, only its a bit more connected to their 'spiritual' side, so its getting slated. Theres an obvious formula to their sound.

Heard this song last night, seriously what are they trying to do in the video i was actually shivering watching it it just looks creepy. I've been a huge fan of KOL since BOTT and when i heard there previous two albums i was blown away completely, then Only by the night was released and i was a little dissappointed, apart from closer, crawl, and sex on fire (which in my view was a fantastic start to the album) it pretty much blew! but like most of us REAL fans i gave them one last chance with Come around sundown, needless to say so far what i've heard of the album its pretty much Only by the night part 2 and they seem to have lost there edge. truely poor from such a inspiring band.......:(

I've heard much worse tbh.....can't really compare it to last record though as I gave that one a miss.

Jesus ... is that for real? It sounds nothing like Sex on Fire, let alone anything coherent

EDIT: The guy messed around with the pitch of the audio is it?

Firstly should this thread even be in the Indie Alternative section?? Should be pop.

Also as a long time, massive fan of the Kings of Leon I do feel a little disappointed. The tune is catchy, the musicianship is perfect. But the track is a very watered down, radio friendly effort.

It's ironic that a song that allegedly is a tribute to their southern roots, is so utterly soulless. Compared to a track like Trani, the production values of Radioactivity are on another level. But Trani, and every song off their first three albums, had things this new material doesn't. Soul. Passion. Edginess. Raw energy. And a self confidence that said "This is us, this is our sound, take it or leave it."

Sadly the new material seems diluted and safe. Designed and produced to sell to the masses and fill stadiums.

    There isn't a pop forum

The thread is fine for the Alt/Indie forum.

the song was completely rerecorded by a chap, i think it sounds great, much better than the album version.

to be blunt... its a p1ss take. a great one too

Yeah I figured no band, regardless of their song quality, could play that badly out of tune live and still be hired for TV appearances ... he did a great job with it in fairness to him

I do like them,i do,just not so much anymore and the fondness has grown very thin over the last 2-3 years.
Shame to think they have the makings to be a unique texan style indie/rock band but do there best to escape it
Still remember waiting for the guitarist to come back from a urination during there support act to the Pixies in Landsdowne, taking the pee or what :D,great gig though!
