The British Prime Ministers father Died shortly After David Cameron reached his Hospital Bedside.

Mr Cameron had flown to France after the 78-year-old suffered a stroke and heart complications while on holiday.

"It is with deep regret we can confirm that Ian Cameron died earlier this afternoon," Downing Street said in a statement.

"He passed away shortly after the Prime Minister arrived at the hospital in France where he was undergoing treatment."

"After talking to doctors at the hospital the Prime Minister has decided to fly to be with his father and mother Mary," Downing Street said just after 10am.

Mr Cameron and his siblings, Alex and Clare, flew on a commercial flight from London's City airport.

A helicopter laid on by President Sarkozy took the family from Nice to Toulon. The French authorities are also helping sort out accomodation.

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg stood in for Mr Cameron in the Commons and Labour also fielded a deputy, with Jack Straw replacing interim leader Harriet Harman.

Before news of the death had been announced, former Prime Minister Tony Blair said on ITV1's This Morning: "I send all my sympathy to David and to his family."

The Prime Minister, who arrived in France at lunchtime, recently described his father as a "huge hero figure"

Neither David Cameron, or his father, heck even his family have ever done anything to effect me badly.

    I wish them well.

This is the same David Cameron who recently apologised unequivocally for Bloody Sunday so on that basis I would bear him no ill will. RIP

All politics aside, its good to see that any son or daughter can say their goodbye's before their father passes away.

Not everyone knows that someone is going to die, you've clearly never lived through it.

    Silly question.

So if he hadn't apologised unequivocally for Bloody Sunday you wouldn't give a shít about his father dying? Lovely

Anyway, David Cameron or his Dad have nothing to do with me or my life, but it's sad that he died so soon after his granddaugther was born. :(
