Disposing of an old Bible....

I have an old Bible, this particular one was neglected and left in a damp spot and is now mildewed and generally the worse for wear

    Should I:
    • Burn it?
    • Bury it?
    • Throw it in a bin?
    • Put it in the recycling?
Does it matter? Would any one action offend a fellow Christian?

Would the action be any different if the Bible was in reasonable condition?

Do with it what you will. Why would I be offended?

If you were to have a little bonfire in your back garden specifically to burn it, I would be a little confused more so than offended. I wouldn't imagine you would do that for any other book. So how about you consider disposing of it in whatever way you will, but at least in the most environmentally sustainable way you can - which would be through recycling.

If you are that concerned, send me on your address and I will dispatch a new bible to you.

That's what the green wheelie bin is for!

Green bin is probably the best option. It most likely where my very old and mouldy bible will end up. I have also heard of a Christian charity that takes old bibles for redistribution - can't remember the name, though.

Green wheelie bin. Or you could donate to the church so they can bury it :(

And no wouldnt make a difference if in reasonable condition.

Send it over to Florida. They've got a holy book burning thing going on there.

    Ebay?

    :pac::pac:

Funny thing is, somebody, somewhere would probably buy it, mildew and all!

If you could somehow work the mildew into something resembling some kind of saintly image, then KA'CHING!

Ancient Irish Bible for sale, mildew has formed in the image of His Eminence Bishop Len Brennan.

It'll be snapped up in a minute!

If you go the recycling route you might want to separate the cover and spine first.

    Kudos for your consideration Homer.

I honestly do not know what the protocol is. However, there's just something wrong, IMHO, in burning the bible. I would ask a priest.

Better yet, think of the generations to come.

Take the bible, dry it out as best you can, and put it into a plastic bag. Try and get the air out. Duct tape it, plastic bag it again, and repeat.

Make sure there's a note inside. Now, hide it somewhere. An old house, in the bog, up the forestry, in the rafters, and old thatched roof.

Kind of a time capsule idea.

Indeed, if it lasts long enough, the people in the future just might thank you for the ancient mold. Then again, you just might wipe them out.:(

Seriously though, I would preserve it as best I could, write a note, and find a cool place to leave it.
