Hi guys....any advice greatly appreciated on this,

I am thinking of starting up my own handmade invitations business from home. I have a name, and materials and my own hard labour sorted, but can anyone advise me on where to go from here? It sounds like a silly question, but I really have no idea. Thanks

might be a stupid suggestion but....have you checked out the cost of a very small stand at a wedding fair ?

Or maybe approach a hotel and offer to setup a table on their wedding open day by promising a percentage of the sales you make on that day.

There are also various wedding related forums that might be worth looking into, a relatively small amount cpould get you listed as a site sponsor for a month and you could do a package deal.

Its all about getting yourself out there and getting your name out there.

Even something as small as putting up a very fancy example of your work on the notice board of big supermarkets has its merits, women notice things like that and with a tear off strip to take away with your details your incresing your chances of getting your first business.

Car boot sales on a sunday maybe?

I'm rambling, but basically everything you do at this stage is good, nothing is a waste of your time, you need to get feedback asap and see what people like and donbt like about your offering.

    Best of luck with it.

If you're really good there's quite a market online selling through etsy.com

Create some samples, show them to friends and anyone you know who is getting married and spread the word out amongst your personal contacts.

I work in the same unit as a company that do this.. Handmade wedding invites etc.
There's a good few companies that do it and even more small time traders. There is work there but it's very seasonal. I know that the woman that owns the business has 2 full time staff, during the summer months she takes on an extra 3-4 and then back to 2. Come winter business near dries up.. Something you'd need to take into account..
