Documents needed for wedding?

I am a British citizen living in Ireland (since 1986) and will be marrying my German girlfriend.

I understand that both of us may need to produce some formal document stating that we are free to marry. Does anyone know if this is correct, and if so, who on earth would be able to provide me with it?

The obvious thing for us to do is to contact our respective embassies (which we will do), however I am at a loss to understand how they would know whether or not I am free to marry.

I believe - but am not certain - that you can get a solicitors letter stating this.

This should give more info http://www.citizensinformation.ie/categories/birth-family-relationships/getting-married/registration_of_marriage

As you are both EU citizens, you probably won't have to produce anything except yourselves if you want to get a civil marriage here.

Best thing is to contact the GRO and ask them www.groireland.ie

If you are having the wedding in Ireland you don't need to produce anything for a civil ceremony - you will sign a declaration stating there is no legal reason you cannot marry each other. you don't need a 'freedom to marry' cert in Ireland.

if you are marrying in a church you will need your religious paperwork I believe, such as your confirmation certs and freedom to marry from them.

If you are marrying in Germany or the UK, then you will probably need a 'freedom to marry' certificate, but it depends on the rules of the country you marry in.

congrats on the engagement, and best of luck!

Hi, Im getting married in a catholic church in my fiances parish next year. I have gone about collecting my freedom form from my old parish church.
Does anyone know if I will also need confirmation forms or baptism forms too?
My baptism was in a different parish altogether so I didnt collect it with my freedom form.
Im worried i will forget about some form!
