    Folks,

I have a couple of dryed in varnish stains in my carpets from painintg my stairs. Is there a way of getting rid of it or would it be a permanent stain?

It's more or less permanent. I don't know what type of carpet it is, but nearly all natural fibres and many synthetic fibres react badly to the acids/solvents used in paint strippers or cellulose thinners.
You could try something like nitromors dabbed on with a rag and quickly removed, but it will almost certainly leave a mark that's as bad as the varnish stain. Try testing an offcut of the carpet first maybe to see how it reacts; you could be lucky.
Next time, mask/cover up. Prevention is better than cure.

Nitromors will cause a reaction on the carpet. Bad news is you can't remove it.

Yeah it's almost certain the stripper will damge the carpet...only other thing I can think of is caustic soda solution applied very carefully and removed asap.
