    Hi

looking for a bit of advice please.
I havent worked in nearly 2 years due to the recession. However, i have been studying for a psychology degree (distance learning course, part time).

On my cv, im debating whether i should write down about my psych degree. Im not yet qualified to do anything in psychology, so im applying for computer-related jobs (tech support mainly) as this is what my previous degree and work experience is in. If i dont put it down that ive been studying psych, then it looks like ive been doing nothing for nearly 2 years. This may not be so bad if i was applying to jobs in Ireland where employers are well aware of the recession, but ive just moved to Canada where they didnt take such a hit and who knows if any potential employer will even be aware of the difficulties experienced in Ireland.

On the other hand, if i do put my psych degree down on my cv, any potential employer may think that im just stopping by for a bit until i get my degree. My work history would back this up as ive never been in any job for very long (however i have pretty legitimate reasons for this).

Been running through both scenarios in my head and i still dont know what to do? Any advice welcome

    thanks

Absolutely, 100% put it down, especially since you already have a qualification in that field, plus work experience.

I've worked with people in IT who have had many different types of qualifications. One guy even had a PhD in History, yet worked in server support.

It shows that you are willing to learn and broaden your horizons.

100% yes. A degree is about the ability to learn as much as it is about the subject matter.

I'd write it down definitely - it's an impressive achievement and why shouldn't you brag about it?! It shows that you've got dedication and application, while it also highlights what you've actually been doing with your time. I recall going for interview in a design place before and I had written nothing down for what I'd done in the year 1999. I told the interviewer that I'd been travelling for the year and she said "I had to ask - for all I know, you could have been in jail..."

    Graceless bint.
