Which tuner/tv

Looking at getting a new tv. I understand for irish 'freeview' (or equivalent is mpeg4 (as with uk FV HD) and uk normal freeview is mpeg2 however.. how does this relate to the tuner in the tv?
    it listed as:
    DTV Reception (DVB-T/T2/C/S2) DVB - T / C
    DTV Tuner Built-in Yes
MHP/ MHEG (version) Pan EU: No

I dont even have a standard antenna in my apt - onlt the upc feed (and only the basic analogue channels) - will I still pick these up?
My old CRT gets them fine with its UHF and VHF tuner, but my understanding is not many tvs come with the UHF tuner (which is what upc analogue dublins is I beleive?)

What are my options with this set? Upgrade to something with a box! (i.e. sky or upc digi!) - different tv?

can anyone shed some light on this before I go ccrazy!!!
    Cheers,
    km

If you want your new tv to pick up Irish DTT channels, you should hold off until after end of October. The DTT service has to be working for the majority of people by then. Expect ??? the broadcasting authorities to be promoting the service before that. This promotion should indicate the standards for any equipment thats to be used to pick up the channels.

Analogue cable in this country is mixed VHF and UHF.

All TVs come with a UHF tuner, most TVs sold in this country come with a VHF tuner. If purchasing from NI or Britian the TV may not have a VHF tuner so make sure to check the specs. When doing setup on a new TV be sure to use Ireland as the country setting, some TVs (e.g. Sony) disable the VHF tuner if installed with UK/GB as the country setting.

What is the make and model number of the TV you are interested in?

The Irish version of DTT (digital terrestrial television) is to be called Saorview or Saorview TV, the UK call their's freeview.

The Irish transmission standard is DVB-T with MPEG-4 video compression. The UK standard is DVT-T with MPEG-2 video compression for standard definition (SD) DTT. The UK has adopted a new standard for it's DTT HD channels DVB-T2 with MPEG-4 video compression, which is backward compatible with the Irish standard.

MHEG-5 is another standard used by both countries to display digital text and epg on digital televisions. MHP mentioned in the specs above is the standard used in continental Europe to do the same thing.

The specs you posted indicate DVB-T2 and so should be compatible with Irish DTT but post the model number to get a more specific answer.

As Kristopherus posted previously if you wish to use the TV to receive Irish DTT (Saorview) which is due to soft launch by the end of Oct it might be best to wait as there is an approval process for receiving equipment which allows them to carry the Saorview sticker/logo which will indicated they are fully compatible with the Irish DTT standard, a public awareness information campaign should also begin around Oct/Nov region.

At the moment can you receive analogue TV with a set top aerial in your apartment? If yes you should be able to pickup DTT with a digital tv.

With DTT you will only receive a lmited number of channels (no UK e.g. BBC, UTV etc), basic analogue cable gives you more channels. If you want more channels than analogue cable the UPC digital (cheaper than analogue cable I believe) or Sky (if you're allowed to install a dish on the apartment block*) are your best options.

    * If you are allowed to install a dish there is also a free satellite tv option called freesat when combined with Irish DTT will give you a good selection of channels with no subscription.
