Going Blonde

I'm a brunette, and have decided to go properly blonde for the first time. The only time I have ever been blonde before was the brief stage just before dying my hair pink or blue or whatever colour I wanted it to be in college. :)

So I need some advice. I want to go very white blonde - not the natural-looking blonde, more "alternative" blonde, and get a short, sharp cut to go with it.

Would it be possible to achieve this type of blonde look at home myself? If yes, what products should I use?

If no, can you recommend a salon that would make a good job of it? I am living in the Kildare/Dublin area and have not got a good hairdresser at the moment.

    Thanks for any advice!

Oh god whatever you do DON'T attempt to so this at home!

Firstly you won't get to be that blonde in just one go :( Sorry!

Secondly if you do that yourself you will have to go to a salon to get it fixed - believe me I've had to fix loads of home jobs!

Thirdly is your colour now your natural colour or chemically dyed?

I bleached my hair at home during the summer. It took two boxes of prelightener to get it to a very yellow blonde and would have taken another box to get it to a light blonde (I had only wanted a very dark blonde so dyed a very light brown over the yellow and got a colour I was happy with - this doesn't happen for everyone though.)

Two/three boxes of what is effectively just peroxide will not leave your hair in good condition. So, because of the shade you want I would definitely recommend going to a professional! :)

    It's my natural colour.

Can anyone recommend a salon so?

Hi I was thinking of doing something similar myself.. the home dye job, but between the pre lighteners and the highlighting kits it was working out that it wouldnt be that cheap and I have had previous hair catastrophes so decided against it!
House of Colour has been recommended to me by a couple of people as the best place to go if you want it done properly. Its not cheap but they do a student discount mon-wed. There's one in Lucan and a few in city centre, check their website I suppose? I know people who travel up from Tipp and Cork to get their hair done there so must be good.
